Part of the job hunt is learning how to find out whos hiring. There are plenty of wonderful resources online such as www.aviationinterviews.com so you can get links to other companies. By simpling going to the careers section of their websites in no time you will have quite a list of whos hiring and whos not. Not only that you will also learn where to send your app.

Hey saviboy. Dont sweat that guy. You'll run into people like that in this business. It's one of the few drawbacks to the airline career. AWAC is borderline desperate for good people with the hours you are asking about. An internal recomendation always helps but I'd definately give it a shot.

When I hit 1000hrs, I applied with Mesa, Eagle and ExpressJet. I heard back from all of them within 2-3 months.
