I have never needed glasses, last checkup I had, the doctor told me I had 20/20. But it sounds like these refractive errors can screw up your military pilot hopes, as can astigmatism. Can 20/20 eyes have these defects? I have had thorough eye exams before and the doc has never mentioned astigmatism, would he have mentioned that if I had it? Since I havent taken the afoqt I am doubting I can just get a FCI. But if I went to a lenscrafters or what ever for an eye exam would they be able to tell me what my refactive error is and if I had an astigmatism? If I cant ever go to upt, I want to know now so I wont be even more bummed after dreaming about it every day for another year.
thanks

The refractive error is the strength of the lenses it takes to correct someone's vision to 20/20. If you don't wear glasses and have 20/20 vision, you really don't have anything to worry about.

Go to the AF pubs website and read AFI48-123, Attachment 7 for the AF refraction regs. They're pretty lenient these days. I got a waiver for 2 D of astigmatism with 20/40. Not a big deal these days.

thanks guys

sweet, so refractive error directly correlates with the strength of your eyes (20/20, 20/40, etc.) . Would the eye doctor I went to 4 years ago, have mentioned if I had an astigmatism?
