I just got my ATP and took the FE written (as part of a package deal). ATP went very well, but I scored a 90% on the FE written--the prep wasn't as good as I'd heard or expected :( I've heard some folks say that for FedEx and UPS, they want to see 99% or 100%, yet others tell me that 90% is fine--letters of recommendation are most important. Just wondering if I need to spend another $295 at All ATPs for the FE written. Any ideas? I am so new to this!

Try this: http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/GroundSchool/flightengineer.asp

Costs $29.95 for initial unlock and $24.95 for subsequent test unlocks, if you want to take other FAA tests.

I used it for FEX, ATP, CFI etc. It is the test bank with answers and crossreferences--with practices for all types of faa contracted tests. Get the software, study on your own time. If you are in the AF, go to an Aero Club or a nearby FBO. Many, Many of them offer all FAA tests. The tests are 50 to 90 bucks --- with lower prices at AF aero clubs. So total cost will be 80 to 120 vs 295 at all ATPs.

Since you "passed" all ATPs won't let you take the test again. But 90 is too low a score. Also you don't want to score 100. A score of 96 to 99 is the "sweet spot". Most of the time the score does not matter, but you want to market yourself in all aspects..... great looking resume, tailored new suit, haircut, shined shoes, good but not "perfect" score on FEX, etc..... Each may not count, and people have been hired with gray suits, bad haircuts, etc. But do it if you want to better your odds.

Oh yes. Recommendations are most important. But they are not mutually exclusive. You want recommendations AND a good score.

Get the 99%..... they will not know how many times you took the test.

Your test score from most computer testing will say attempt 1 or 2 etc.
Sheppard Air is a good way to go.
