Anyone know of any guard/reserve fighter units hiring rated pilots? PM if you have any gouge or leads. Thanks.

What kind of rating? I take it the C-130? If so, I wouldn't obviously know each unit's druthers, but I'd imagine not. They'll typically look to hire prior AD folks with jet time in that specific jet or with some similar role - i.e. an F-16 AD guy into an F-16 unit, or possibly an F-16 guy into an A-10 unit, etc...

With BRAC on the horizon for quite a few fighter units, finding spots is becoming ever increasingly difficult as many quality fighter guys coming off AD are looking for guard jobs at dwindling numbers of fighter guard units.

Good luck.

Cut him some slack. His profile says he's having problems with CAC. Maybe his CAC has become flacid and won't properly insert into the CAC holder. He probably plays with his CAC too much and is always pulling it out to show his buds.

I have heard of rotary guys going to fighter as well as an AC-130 guy who went Hogs.

Obviously it can be done - never say never. However, it is EXTREMELY rare - especially on AD and even more so in the guard/reserve side. Talking to my peers at other units - the ones that are hiring are already pretty swamped with resume's from AD fighter guys (and quite a few IP's at that). With BRAC shutting down guard fighter units - there are even fewer slots to go around. Classic example is Syracuse. I had the priveledge to do some CAS with them this past summer (great guys) and they're sched'd to go to Predators in a couple of years. Most of their young F-16 current and qual guys are looking for other guard fighter units. Put that on top of the AD pool of fighter guys and you can see why a C-130 guy would have a very hard time finding a unit that will pick him up - send him to IFF, send him to F-16 FTU, and then get him MR through MQT...when they can already pick up a young captain who's a 4 ship flight lead in the F-16.

Again, my .02. It can be done, but the chances are against you.

It takes scotch, LOTS of scotch. And facetime, and knowing someone in the unit to vouch for you. Units will hire someone they know they can get along with for 20 years before they care about how qualified you are. Qualification is going to be the tie breaker, no doubt.

Add to the fact that most folks flying AC other than fighter/bombers did NOT go thru -38s. A buddy was one of the first from gunships to try to get to A10s...the ACC DO said he was not "FARd" (old days of UPT) so he couldnt do it - those of us that were in the later classes got to apply for X - flow

...units hiring rated pilots..
Is that opposed to non-rated pilots? Rated and pilot is redundant. :) I know its already been addressed, but had to clarify.
Nice HUD picture NewmanF16, I've seen a couple closer than that, unfortuately. There was an F-15 mishap about 12 years ago that sliced his wingman's radar off. That was the worst HUD I've seen. One frame, all airplane.

CC - I take it you're with Barnes right now flying Eagles...were you prior AD in the Eagle or a guard baby? Are you making the leap to the A-10?

Its the other way around, Otis moving to Barnes and A-10 guys making the jump to the Eagle. At least last I heard.
