I worked line service for 9+ years in the Northeast, I know how crazy the ramp can get during a snow event. Pilots aren't the only ones putting themselves in harms way.

BOSTON -- A longtime Delta Air Lines worker was struck and killed by a de-icing truck at Logan International Airport on Tuesday morning.
The 44-year-old Malden man was walking on the tarmac outside Terminal C at about 6:30 a.m. when he stepped into the path of a truck used to remove ice from aircraft, said David Procopio, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

The truck was driven by another Delta employee who had worked with the man for several years, Procopio said. That driver was hospitalized for stress-related injuries, Procopio said.

Procopio said his office was involved to determine if charges should be filed against the driver, but added, "At this point, all the evidence points to this being a horrible, horrible accident."

Procopio did not release the driver's name. Delta did not release the victim's name, pending notification of family.

Delta released a statement in which it expressed sympathy for the friends and family of the man who was killed. (AP)

What is a "stress-related injury"?

Our condolenses go out to the family of ramper. Must be tough this close to the holiday season.

Its when you realize you just ran your buddy over with a truck [by accident] and you have a massive panic attack or go into shock .. that sort of thing.

Its not easy knowing that you just killed someone that you've worked with and seen on the job for who knows how many years.

We had two rampers at AWA that got "run over" by the nosewheel of the 757 during pushback. One lost his leg and I do not remember what happened to the other one. As part of their training, they were taught not to get behind the nosewheel. Now, I believe all the pushbacks are done with the rampers on the tug and hooked up to the aircraft with a very LONG headset cord. The only time they get off that tug is to disconnect the aircraft from the towbar.

I feel very sorry for the families of the man that was killed and for the guy who ran him over.

What a horrible way to go. This will be a tough Christmas for the family.

I think that one of those guys is now a pilot at Mesaba.

The ramp can be a very dangerous place, especially with all of the noise.

Those familiar with MSP, will remember the temporary regional terminal of the late 90's. The pax had to take a shuttle bus to and from their plane even if it was parked right next to the building. I remember several times where an anxious passenger would decide to skip the bus and dart for the terminal across the ramp. We'd have to chase or restrain them and of course they'd be very angry. I figured that angry was better than dead or injured after running into a vehicle or spinning prop.
