What is a "Radar Fix" on an approach plate. I was looking at the ILS into Maui and there are two marker beakons... below each it states: Radar Fix...what exactly does this mean. Does it mean there is another way to identify where it is other than your marker beakons? Any help much appreciated...thanks in advance.

It means that ATC radar can be used to identify the fix. "You are 5 from RITTI, cleared for the ILS runway 2 approach."

RITTI can be identified by the marker beacon, OGG 7.6 DME, or by requesting ATC report your radar position over RITTI.

Thanks for the responses...Makes sense. Where did you guys find the answer to this... I have scoured a lot of reference books for it without any luck.

Required....

Check the upper corner of the page as well. Sometimes a fix can be identified by various methods-a beacon, a cross radial, DME, etc. If the upper part (ILS 28) also says (RADAR), then radar is required since it is the only method acceptable for ident. If (RADAR) is not at the top, it is not required for whatever reason.

It may be addressed in the introduction of your Jeppesen approach charts. There's a ton of useful information there.
