The upper crust of United's management has set a new low. They are in the process of moving (outsourcing) flight attendant scheduling to the philippines.

Jeff has moved United Airlines to a new low, the bottom. Major step completed to go from first to worst. More outsourcing, less employees, crappier moral.

Way to go Jeff.

And how do you propose he pay for himself? Insource everything and run a reputable airline? I don't think so.

No, it is true....FA scheduling is being outsourced now but not 100% of them. A friend of mine just delt with one of the outsourced folks yesterday.

Another outsourcing rumor....LA ramp agent said yesterday on the headset they are all losing their jobs to a vendor in the next 90 days. Outsourcing a station large as LA?????

When were they first?

Many businesses/companies both domestic and foreign outsource for many reasons in which I expect this trend to continue. Airlines are no different!

Core competence? So he wants to outsource jobs that are not in the core competence. Then why outsource baggage handling, is that not a prime core? Customer relations? Essentially, he could outsource everything, pilots included, and paint UAL on the jet and call it a done deal. Stand and fight folks, it may mean taking a cut, but once they outsource, you'll never get it back unless you move to El Salvador to get a job there. Ask the SWA mechanics, they outsourced 25% of their heavy line, killed the jobs for young guys, and now fight tooth and nail for work because they have a B scale contingent working for the company.

Not new news,
The lead UAL clown in '00, stated at an ATA conference, during a speech that "his vision for the future of UAL, was to divest themselves of the flight operations and maintenance groups so that they could get down to business of selling tickets and making money" Ya all can crow about safety, and organically flown pax, but airlines are about one thing and one thing only, making money. If they could figger out a way to make money crashing planes full of babies and nuns, this country wouldn't be able sell baby food or bibles. I am sure someone here could find the video of the UAL clown, CSPAN, ATA conference, keynote speech, late 2000.
