Can anyone recommend a good school in Texas that can get a initial CFI rating done in Texas is say 4 days or so?

Obviously, I'd arrive well prepared for the knowledge part....

Check out American Flyers in Addison Texas. They'll take good care of you, but it will take studying on your part, don't expect it to be given to you like a lot of other schools do. I finished my CFI/CFII in about 28 days and saved $600 dollars on the program. Its up to you to be diligent and study. lots of folks come through and all they want to do is go out and get hammered every night instead of study, its the age thing. If you can just grow up for one month and study hard, any program will be successful for you. Good luck.

I don't think you can schedule your checkride in four days, let alone get all the required training done. I hustled through mine in a little over five weeks start to finish and don't think I could have shaved much time off w/o forgoing sleep altogether. The CFI Initial requires a lot of homework - lesson plans, lecture prep, etc...

How about starting the experience with a question like: "Can anyone recommend a great school in Texas that has experience with traning quality CFI's who go on to be great teachers?" Hopefully in an expeditious manner!"

Just a suggestion from a former great teacher who went on to have a great career.;)

I agree with the above post. Its how good of a teacher you want to be. I think this is the dividing line between instructor farms and the true learning experience behind how to become a good teacher. Consider questions like, "will I practice my teaching skills on a daily basis?" "will I work in peer groups to develop my approach to difficult students?" "can the school I learn at teach me several different methods to get through to the difficult student?" "how will the school prepare me for a successful instructing career the day I leave?"

You really need to consider these options, especially the last question. Any knuckle dragging pilot can teach you FOIs and make you arrive at school with your lesson plans complete but they can't teach you in three days how to connect with students. They can't mold you into a prepared instructor for day one. Albeit, most instructors don't have the talent to truly fake it till you make it right from the get go but that's a little part of the journey to becoming a good CFI. Every instructor has been a little unsure for the first month or so but wouldn't you rather be uncomfortable for a month rather than 6 months, always questionioning your judgment, wondering if the info you are teaching is really effective?

Yea, airman flight school went bankrupt! Maybe he should have phrased it Who has self examining authority for CFI?

OK, so lets take a real look at this here. American Flyers offers a 30 day CFI program in it's "Air force style flight setting" that includes a whole 15 hours of flight time. All ATPS has it's CFI CFII and MEI program in 14 days that includes a whooping 7 hours multi and 5 hours single.

Seeing as the closest C172RG available for me to rent is over 100 miles away, this makes it difficult to fly one often. However, that's not to say I'm not current. I own my own plane, fly 4 to 5 times a week averaging about 8-12 hours and I'm current on my commercial maneuvers. I've also been signed off for spins as well. Currently passing the CFI and FOI practice written exams with 98's or better with a 100 every now and then.

Additionally, I've spent the last two months studing my ass off with 14 CFR 61, FAA's Airplane Flying Handbook, Aviation Instructor's Handbook, Flight Instructors PTS, C-172RG POH and the ASA CFI DVD course and test prep.

So no, smart asses, I'm not looking to buy my ticket or a school with examining authority. I don't feel the need to spend 14-30 days in a classroom setting studing what I've already learned and doing very little flying. I just need someone who can spend 15-20 hours of dual in a C-172RG to prep for the flying portion of the checkride.

Philcam,
if you are going to be ready for this, I would still like to spend a lot more than 4 days with you during the process. First of all, the person you are going to do with will not know you as a pilot. Second of all, as a CFI teaching someone the initial, I wouldn't feel comfortable with giving you the flight instruction part only even though you have all the ground portion signed off by another instructor, unless i know him/her..

I have to admit that your initial post sounded like a person looking for a quickie to me. It sounds like that is not the case....

Dedicate a bit more time to this. Take some time off work.. Dedicate about 10 days or so.. Just eat, sleep, drink this stuff for that period time..

Keep us posted about the outcome of the checkride..
