I'm considering a military tour flying the Gulfstream IV. But, only if that kind of experience sets me up for a reasonable chance of hiring success to fly the G-IV outside of the military.

My hours at the end of this military tour would be ~2100 hours TT, ~1700 PIC (all turbojet), and ~1700 multi-engine. Aircraft experience includes F/A-18.

Does that small of amount of experience get my foot in the door at NetJets or any corporate outfits?
For NetJets, am I eligible for hire into the G-V with G-IV experience? Where are NetJets domiciles for these aircraft?

Thanks for your help.

Netjets International is the division that flys the GIV's and GV's. They are a separate company. Current hiring requirements are:

-ATP
-1st class med.
-5000 hrs TT
-500 Gulfstream hours (preferred)
-Gulfstream Type rating (preferred)

(see http://www.netjets.com/News%20and%20Info/careers_pilots.asp )

NJA has different requirements.

There are no "domiciles" for the aircraft. At NJI you must live within 1 hour of any airport with scheduled airline service.

Good Luck!

You bet it would be valuable. The hours are a little low but you wont have any problem.

IMHO skip the Netjets experience and hit some of the top corp outfits, many are run by ex-mil guys. Another option, look into instructing at SAV FSI and take a while to job shop the best jobs.

Learn the corporate attitude (customer service), lose the constant "Sir" "Maam" thing, dont emphasize the fighter time, and shoot for the best jobs! Push the top brass transport thing, its what you will be doing.

You will be in good shape, there are many retirements coming soon in corporate.

Dont wait until you are done to network. Send resumes, call Chief Pilots...

good luck!

If your license says ATP, type ratings G-IV...

Your Golden!

All your hornet driving buddies at Southwest will love ya.

Is it hard to tranfer from fighters to VIP?
For the navy it is very hard. Not sure if he is Marine or Navy, because they both have G-IV's and F18's. On the navy side of the house, those two squadorns are of the VR type. Regular navy guys can't negotiate those orders. You have to put in a package for TAR (active duty in a reserve unit) or go reserves and rush the unit. Obviously, a lot of guys try to do these very things, but the slots are limited. I assume that the Marines are similar. You can't really sign up, go to flight school, and choose that type of plane right out of flight school. Hope that helps.

Psysicx,
You bet, it's hard, and that's a matter of there only being a few slots per year. For a Marine F/A-18 guy, going into one of these slots spells the end of your fighter days unless you are one of those water walkers.
To set yourself up for something like fighters to VIP in the Marines, one of the advertised techniques is to take a long, combat deploying FAC tour if you're an O-3 and to take a long, combat deploying operational staff tour if you're an O-4. It helps more if that billet is one that is hard to sell. In the end, the career monitors attempt to "pay" you back with a "good-deal" flight tour of your request, but there's always bad timing that can get in the way. I'm sure there's a bit of networking involved, but I haven't cracked the code on that. I can expand on this further, but I think it's inappropriate to use anymore space in this forum for this. PM me if any more questions. Yes, it's very hard to get into the C-20 (G-IV). There are other billets like the C-12 that are much easier in comparison to get assigned to.

There are a couple of regular active duty Gulfstream jobs in the USN/USMC.

There's the CNE bird in Italy; this used to be a P-3 but about 18 months ago they got a G-III. However there have been some maint problems with the bird so the scuttlebutt a few months ago is that they may plop down the coin for a 550. This used to go just to VP guys, but that may be changing. There was also talk of switching to a VR det.

MARFORPAC also has a G-IV "owned" by MCAF at Kanenoe. Although a marine airfield, the XO slot is a Navy billet, and you get qual'd in the IV. Last I heard, that alternates between VP & HS, since the P-3s and H-60s are based there. The marines assigned to MCAF make up the rest of the pilots. LUV, sounds like you are in the Corps, that may not be such a bad deal, if you can get it. HI is an awsome place to be stationed for a few years.

Marines also have several Citation Ultras (C-35), happened to fly as pax on one recently. Brand new airplanes, very nice ride, except the lav sucks!

Good luck!
