Hello,

Just a quick question for you skywest fellas/gals. Just wondering if there is any talk of Skywest participating in CASS?

Also, there have been a few times that I have been unable to JS on Skywest due to weight restrictions (SLC to Montana Cities). To prepare for this, what usually causes the limitation? (Takeoff into icing?, etc...). I know a few of our RJ's have some "weight" issues and it can be frustrating being able to get everyone on board. Usually we are Landing Structural limited and can change the burn by flying lower thus gettting a few hundred pounds more in payload. Just wondering so I can plan a little better next time.

Thanks again for all the rides. Skywest has some really great folks and I've never been denied a JS. (just been stopped by the gate agent when weight was an issue) Thanks for the info.

Regards,

ERJPLT

SkyWest is trying to participate in CASS. Hopefully it will be approved by the FEDs soon.

About weight issues going into Montana...Being landing limited is probably the problem if there is any kind alternate required or if the dispatcher adds additional fuel for some reason (not a bad idea considering Montana weather). If that is the case then most likely other passengers are being bumped as well. Occasionally there is a forward CG problem which requires us to remove a couple of people from the foward part of the cabin including any jumpseater. This only would occur if there were very few bags placed in the cargo compartment in the back of the fuselage. Usually ballast would correct this but if you have a forward CG as well as a high fuel load making you landing limited then weight and balance/CG issues get even more complicated.
