Alright I'll be brief. I was supposed to leave for basic this past Nov. But I messed up my elbow and thought it would heal itself and it didn't now it's is really #$@^%^ up and I will need surgury and doc says the nerve might take 1-2 years to get strong enough to do serious pushups again. This really sucks, I enlisted in June03 at 180 pounds and I could do 65-75 quality pushups (did 71 in 2 for an actual T.I. visiting his ol' ang base). Now I weigh 155 and can't do more than 5 pushups without my left elbow/arm shaking and then failing. I "have" to leave for basic within one year of enlisting. Last month I had an MD note for my unit saying that I probably have tendinits and that I should be good in 2 months. Now for this weekend I have a note from a Neurologist saying that I'll most likely need surgury and a long rehab after. What is going to happen to me? Am I in trouble with my unit now?

Thanks

Sorry to hear...

...about your elbow. How did all this happen, if you don't mind? Reason I ask is, not to distract you here, but it feels like the same thing is happening to me! About a month ago, I started getting a pain in my right elbow, and resulting loss of strength due to the pain when moving it certain ways or picking things up a certain way. Doc also is thinking tendonitis, but it worries me.

Anyway, I've talked to you before at length and am glad to see you moving ahead. I think the best thing is to be upfront with your unit, and see what they say. My feeling is that it should not be a showstopper, because you don't do many pushups at BMTS and even then, there were always people not participating in certain aspects of PT because of doctors orders for one thing or another. They may be able to get you a waiver before you go for. Alternatively, you could just not say anything and go, then get a waiver when you're there. We really need some help from someone a little closer to the process, but maybe some of this helped. Is it getting worse? Does an elbow brace help? PM me with your details if you have a chance!
