In many different threads I have seen the mention of SIBA, with re: to Subic and Europe ops. What is SIBA?

Thanks...a wannabe

EV120:
SIBA means a segment of the monthly bid in which only a specific type of flying is typicaly included, i.e. Europe. SIBA pilots volunteer by senority to fly SIBA type lines in a three month increments. We used to have SIBA (South America) in the B-727, but we no longer have. Depending on equipment and location of flying, it can go very senior.

What is SIBA?

SIBA= Special International Bid Award. A person based in Memphis and awarded a 3 month SIBA slot would bid special lines that normally start with a deadhead to Europe and operate in Europe for up to 10 days at a time. There is one line that goes down to Panama also. The guys in Subic are based there and operate out of there to cities in Asia.

Makes sense to me. I was wondering how staffing was done for the Europe flying. I assumed it included DH to/from Europe.

I would assume it pays pretty good, and gets more time off, with the tradeoff of being gone for longer trips.

Hopefully, I will be able to see more of the world in the future.

Wannabe....
