Hi All,

I am trying to do some homework for an upcoming interview and was wondering if I might ask a few questions of you?

-Any idea on where a new hire might end up being based?, and what type of schedule (i.e. days off per month, time on reserve before holding a line, avg. days off for line holders) etc. etc.

-Are you seat locked as a SO if an FO slot opens up?

-How long are the projected times to upgrade from SO to FO, then FO to CA?

Thank you very much in advance for the responses.

Take care,
Sferguson737

Does it really matter what the answers are? Are those issues a deciding factor on whether or not you would take the job if offered?

Not sure I understand the question TheGuat, if you already know the answer to a question, what's the point in asking? I am making a career choice that I have to live with for the next 22 years, shouldn't I get as informed as possible prior to making the decision?

I am asking for honest answers about what to expect when starting a career at UPS, so when asked the question in the interview, I don't have the classic deer in the headlights stare. I am not asking this to determine whether I want the interview or not, (I do) and will not base my decision on the responses here, but at least I will have a clue. My decison will be on what is best for my family and I, nothing else.

Regards,

as simple as this may sound- its true- who knows? you could be based in sdf, mia, ont or even anc (anc for new-hires a likely possibility).

rest of the questions- second verse same as the first- it all depends - who knows? some are starting out as FEs some FO's - with the anc domicile and the over 60 guys leaving - new fleets- who knows.

Hey Ferg,

First off let me apologize for the arses above. The Guat is a flamer.

You are not seat locked. If you are still an SO after 1 year you are pay protected and paid as an FO unless you turn down the upgrade. You'd be looking at at least 6 months on the panel and no more than a year. The junior captains are 1998 hires now. Keep in mind there were no new hires between 9/11 and 11/04. You'd be on reserve 15 days out of the 28 bid cycle. Keep in mind that reserve at UPS is unlike that at pax carriers. You probably won't fly much, especially as an SO. Ontario seems to be short manned and nobody wants to go to Alaska so I think you could reasonable expect a 757 to Ontario or an MD-11 to ANC.

Thanks, I really appreciate the replies. I was born in Anchorage, so it would be interesting to see my birthplace, (for a while, anyway.)

Thanks again
