Question about a Boeing 737-200

In another forum, a poster came on, and started talking 9/11 conspiracy. Sure enough, his thread was locked. I sent him a PM and said that I would be glad to discuss it with him, I am not going to run away from a discussion, but that he had to provide FACTS.

So one of the things that he said is that a Boeing 737-200 has a max speed of 220mph @1000ft, before it starts "shaking apart" and that this goes for pretty much any airliner.

So of course his whole contention is that it was impossible for these planes to be going 500mph @ 1000ft

Sounds like a bunch of crap to me, and does not take into consideration if the plane was in a steep descent(pentagon), etc.

I don't want to start a 9/11 thread, and I am sure that is frowned upon here. I just simply want to know if that fact is crap.

Ummm, yeah. That's crap.

The maximum turbulent airspeed for a -200 is 280 knots (about 322 miles per hour). I don't have a manual handy, but I'm quite sure the redline indicated airspeed is well above that.

Further, the airplane doesn't know if it's at 1,000 feet or 10,000 feet. And it'll do 300 knots without a problem at 10,000 feet. It does 250 below 10 only because of a legal limit, not a structural one.
