I was wondering how quality of life at our regional compares with other regionals. I'd like to hear from any commuters (ASA, ACA, COEX, Comair, Chataqua, etc) what kind of schedules you guys get. How many days off is your best line? Your worst? And what's the average?

Tim

I am at Gulfstream International/Continental Connection.

Best line this month in my base.

2 on 5 off: 19 total days off. No RON's.

Average 14 days off.

Worst: 4 on 3 off RESERVE:12 days off.

I am on a 16 day off line: 277TAFB, 88 hrs BL, 92 hrs CR.

Thanks B190. FYI, I think you have about the best lines in the industry. Our best lines are 4 on 3 off! Anyone else out there who can share?

By the way, don't worry about the other fellows reply. I also spent about $30k on my training but had to scrape by on instructing, ferrying, and charter. If I had to do it over again, I'd want a garunted job after training.

At chicago ecpress it varies. Minimum days off is 10 avergae is 12-14, good lines will give you 16-18, were 17 and 18 are a raretity. My line for June is 16 days off, ab out 4 on and 5 off, preety nice, but were using pref bidding and its almost impossible to see what amount of days you can off until the computer spits the numbers out.

B190Captain-

What's the minimum pay guarantee now with the IBT contract?

Antney,

You guys have another quality of life issue in your favor--the fact that you already know your June schedule. We won't even get June bid packets for another week or so then it will be another 4-5 days after that till bidding closes and we know our June schedules.

Tim

Mr. scab caller is just jealous because he is on call 24/7 and has no days off. More than likely he would be the first to cross, don't pay any attention to him.

It's not a guaranteed job after training.

The current IBT contract guarantee is 75 hours. 4 hr minimum report.

When I talked with them a few years ago, the deal was if you trained there, then instructed for 18 months, they garunteed you 250 hours as FO in the 1900, extendable if they needed you. Is that no longer the case?

By the way, how are you quoting from previous messages?

But at least he'd be in good company, eh Turbo? :)

Back in the day lines were between 10 and 14 days off, with about an equal number of 14, 13, 12, 11, 10 day off lines. Between 250 and 325 TAFB and between 65 and 85 hours. This was considered "overstaffed," thusly I am on the street. Continuous duty overnights had 10 or 11 days off, 50 or 60 hours of flying. I've been told that the lines have "improved" since, well halle-freakin-lujah.

Well that I am not sure about. I was never part of that Training Academy side of things but the students that fly their 250 and were not instructors have to get letters of recommendation from Captains to be interviewed and then placed in a pool (if hired)until slots become available.

Oh and on the bottom right of this post you will see 2 icons that say edit and quote. Click on quote and it will automatically place the quote on your reply.

When I left the 'Stream a little over a year ago, the Academy had stopped the program for their CFIs to get the FO program for free. It might be back now, but I'm not sure.

ASA QOL varies quite a bit. Senior line holders usually get 16-19 days off-3 on/4off (occasionally you'll see 20 off), while junior line holders are more like 4 on/2 off (10-11 days off). Most average lines are 12-14 days off with 4 on/3 off. Reserves get 10 off (5 on/2 off with one group of 4 off). The lines vary quite a bit based on equipment. ATL ATR is mostly short hops, lots of legs, while the opposite would be DFW CRJ-700. Here is a typical trip in the CR7:

MO 4855 DFW-OAK 1545 1745 0400

TU 4803 OAK-DFW 0640 1206 0326
TU 4192 DFW-DCA 1310 1659 0249

WE 4205 DCA-DFW 0620 0845 0325
WE 4179 DFW-ONT 0940 1059 0319

TH 4186 ONT-DFW 0730 1224 0254

Not exactly "regional" flying (shortest leg of the trip is 2:49 from DFW-DCA). QOL is pretty darn good for senior folks, so it's very common to see senior RJ FO's passing up CRJ Captain to maintain there QOL.

Hope this helps!

Frax-
7 on 7 off. 7 Off is way nice. Then have a week off for vacation, then another week off. That's 3 weeks of twice a year minimum for me. Call in sick 2 more weeks. There goes the summer.

or 17 Day

17 days a month. Build it how you wish. Just make sure the minimum tour is 4 days long. Or they can build it for you. Somthing like 5 on 6 off 6 on 5 off 6 on 5 off.

Another DFW ASA guy chiming in.

In May I'm doing back-to-back 2 day trips.

Tue sign in 10:40 a.m. DFW-VPS (Ft Walton Beach, FL)-DFW-CHS
show @ 11:55 a.m. CHS-DFW-HSV(Huntsville, AL)-DFW
Sign out about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday

Thur sign in 2:40 p.m. DFW-LIT-DFW-MOB
show @ 6:15 a.m. MOB-DFW
Sign out @ 8:56 Friday morning

For June I got 3 on 4 off. Work from 8:30 a.m. or so Monday 'til about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

It's a tough three day but I'm #32 of about 130 in the right seat. My line is #14 of about 113. The lines are sequential in # of days off. Mine has 16 days off and is blocked to 82+ hours. There's also an integration day on the 1st. If they don't peg me to fly that day I'll have 17 days off. A couple of weeks of four days off and my wife'll be BEGGING me to go fly with the Reserves!!
