I am a Junior in high school, and I am considering several different aviation schools. The one I am leaning towards is Purdue, even thouhg I hear it is very hard to get into. I would love it If any current Purdue students or Purdue grads could tell me as much as possible about their experience with the school, the flight program and the Lafayette area. I would like to learn more about the opportunity to fly in their King Air, and other employment opportuniyt's Purdue offers. Thanks alot.

I wouldn't be the one to ask because purdue was the only aviation program that rejected me of the 8 or so i applied to. I am now at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and lovin' it. Heck i didnt even know there was a program down here until after i sent out initial applications. What other schools are you considering say you don't get in? Leave yourself options is all i can say. After purdue declined me, I had to send out more apps cause i didnt like the choices I was left with.....

Good luck wherever you go....

Purdue is a great school.

They are getting new Piper Arrows with HSIs, they already have many Warriors and Duchesses, King Air and Beechjet 400A, a 727, 737...for static training, and 727 simulator etc...

Purdue Airport is the first University Owned airport in the US, and the second busiest airport in the state of Indiana.

Class Delta airport, and if you got an engine failure, can't be a flatter place than central Indiana...

check it out at http://www.tech.purdue.edu/at/

Archer....I think I disagree with you on one of your points!!! I believe that there may be a "flatter" place than central Indiana. Come check out Grand Forks ND, it has to be worse!!!

Viper...maybe you want to check out UND??

tk

Flatter any of you been to South Florida. If you find a runway above 9 feet your lucky. And over the everglades there is nothing but grass and water.

ok....first of all:

"Flatter any of you been to South Florida. If you find a runway above 9 feet your lucky."

Elevation has nothing to do with being flat. Secondly, I must say the central plains are pretty flat. Here in central illinois is way worse than central indiana (i know cause i have flown over both). As for UND, think about it.....FRIGID COLD WINTERS.....you dont wanna do that....Come to at least visit champaign-urbana.....Nice planes, nice people, great education!

wow-
Grand forks might get up to freezing this weekend!!
Hope it thaws out by MAY for the National SAFECON!!! ;)

U-I pilot said:

Well.... I didn't go to Purdue or anything, but if the point is that there is very little change in elevation, I'd say that makes it flat. Right??

I just couldn't resist. :D

Hey vipermcg. I am a freshman at Purdue in the flight program. As mentioned before it is an awesome program. Here is the list of aircraft that we have

14- Piper Warrior III (year 2000)
4-Piper Arrow (getting new ones over the summer
2-Piper seminoles(just got those last year)
2-King Airs
1-Beachjet
2-Cessna 150
1-chipmunk

You are correct in the fact that its very hard to get into but a plus about the program is once that you are in it is one of the easiest programs at Purdue

The flight program can be fairly time consuming, but if you like flying that really shouldn't matter to you.

When you are a senior in the flight program you get an opportunity to co-pilot one of the two King Airs on several different occasions. We also have what can be considered as an honors program of sorts. Six seniors are chosen in their senior year to fly copilot in the Beechjet. Those six trade off being copilots for the whole year.

What is you GPA and have you taken the ACT/SAT yet? You should try to make it up here for a tour sometime soon.

If you have any questions you can email me [email protected]
or pm or IM on AOL at tvittito

i'm going to fly down to purdue at the end of february for a campus visit.

would it be hard for me to get in? some background info:

- junior in high school
- GPA around 3.3 or 3.4
- took SAT in 8th grade and got somewhere between 1200 and 1300
- took AP Calc BC and AP Psych last year and got a 5 on the AP tests

my mom says she wants me to be an engineer instead of a pilot... she says pilots are exactly like bus drivers. that's not very encouraging
