Will NJA hire you without PIC time (regional FO here)? What seems to be the average profile of new hires at NJA recently?

Thanks a lot for any info

If you meet the minimums, you do have a chance. There is no stated PIC time requirement. For what it's worth, I do know of people hired at NetJets without any turbine PIC time and who were regional FO's. By the way, here's the quote from NetJets' website on pilot requirements:

  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Multi-Engine Land)
  • Current FAA First Class Medical certificate
  • 2500 hours total pilot time
  • 500 hours fixed wing multi-engine time
  • 250 hours instrument time (actual or simulated in flight - excludes simulator time)
As for an average profile, when I started submitting my resume years ago, the canned response included a line that the average NJA new-hire had 5700 hours TT. But that's just an average: some people have more than that and some have less.

As always, an internal recommendation definitely helps. Perhaps even more so if someone is more towards the minimums on requirements.

If you meet the minimum requirements, they will interview you. If you have an internal rec, they will interview you faster.

There are many, many ex-regional FO's here with no turbine PIC. IMO, NetJets is one of the few quality employers out there that has recognized that PIC time isn't everything and that there are a lot of pretty good pilots out there who don't have the time due to circumstance, not ability.

I've noticed that these numbers change depending on where you read them. NetJets is not very consistent when they post their time requirements. The company has one thing posted on the website, when the first e-mail arrives there are more caveats to the flight time, and finally the matrix that goes with the application changes it again. Without going into detail, these posted numbers are good and NetJets defines PIC time as Part 61.??, or manipulating the controls, not PIC as responsible for the jet. Plenty of regional FOs make it into NetJets.

I haven't seen the application since I was hired, what is the PIC time requirement?

I don't remember there being a PIC time requirement, the 500 multi can be all SIC I'm sure, and I believe most of the 2500 TT can be SIC also.

A year ago, the application contained a Flight Time Worksheet. As you listed out your times (250/2500), you had to break it out by catagory as well as PIC and SIC and other assorted columns. On that worksheet, it tells you to reference FAR 61.51. Within 61.51 is the "sole manipulator" of the controls definition of PIC. So this shouldn't eliminate anyone that hasn't upgraded to CAPT.

After looking at it a again, the PIC column is not labeled in such a way to make it a minimum requirement.

There is a COLUMN (or at least there was) for PIC as NJA defines it but there is no requirement for said time. I was hired with no turbine PIC, i'm sure many others were too.

Just don't be one of those regional FO goobs (see the Regional threads) who logs PIC because they are the "sole manipulator of the controls". Either you are PIC, or not. No shortcuts. The way you log your time speaks volumes about you.

Don't worry about the turbine PIC requirement. None required, unlike most of the majors.
