I've been looking at some posts on here about PRK. But does anyone have anywhere that I can go and find the exact regs about getting PRK? I'm in the guard looking to go for a guard slot, and I need to find the regs to show the flight doc, apparently the information that PRK waivers are allowed hasn't made it to all the ANG bases yet. If anyone can give me any help I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Oh, by the way, make sure you do your homework, because some flight docs are very unfamiliar with the regs themselves. I almost got disqualified twice for their misunderstanding of regulations. It would be a shame to miss out because someone "thought" your eyes weren't good enough.

Thanks for the Link, Right now I'm fighting to get the Flight Doc at my Guard Base to even look into it. Last time I talked to him he said he hadn't seen the regs, so that's part of my fight with them as well.

Does anyone know someone who has gotten a waiver for PRK that could help with the process?

i am in the same situation, i have a LT looking into it for me. im wanting to get my Warrent packet together and need correction on my eyes. i have gotten the screening done on the Custom View Wave Lasik, suppose to be the best out there right now but i don't know what the doc will say about it.. i am in the Arkansas Army National Guard...

I'm currently waiting to hear back on my waiver, have you had PRK already?
If not and you want to get it through a civilian doc, I'd say the best thing to do is print out those regs and find the best doc you can for a consultation. Take them the regs and see if you meet the pre-op requirements.
Only a couple of guard units I spoke with knew anything about PRK so having those regs handy when you make your case to the unit goes a long way.

I haven't had PRK yet, I'm looking into it right now. Are you going to fly for the Guard? and did you get PRK before applying? or did you have to talk to the flight doc before hand?

I am going into the Guard and I had the PRK before applying. I wasn't enlisted though and I don't know the procedure if you're already in the military.
If you are applying to various Guard units as a civilian they usually won't talk to you much until you've had the procedure and your eyes meet the requirements for a waiver. Until that point you are basically disqualified as far as they are concerned. Even after that many units won't talk to you because anything requiring a waiver is more work for them as well as more risk in you not passing the medical, and there are 100 or so applicants who don't need the waiver applying at the same time.
Bottom line, it's a delicate subject when first proposed to the unit you are applying to, but don't let them tell you it can't be done.
