A friend of mine wants to get his private pilots license and instrument rating in the Dallas area. He lives closest to the Addison Airport but is willing to drive elsewhere for better instruction if necessary.

Just curious if anyone has any recommendations of where to go or not go for flight instruction in the Dallas area.

He was looking into a school called Lonestar flyers at Addison. If anyone can make any recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Look to the top left of your screen, at the big yellow and red banner that reads "the most respected name in Pilot Certification". Go there, and then walk about 50 yards to your left to a blue building that says "Skymates".

Skymates is a good deal from what I have heard, also had a buddy do some flight training out at Mesquite - they have fairly cheap prices there. I'd stay away from American Flyers - too much $$$$ IMO but good MX.

I did my training in Mesquite - cheap, definitely ... quality of instruction - it's a crap shoot.

Second that Marcair! Quite a trip west from Addison area, but you'll never have to wait to take off behind a Gulfstream or Lear at Northwest Regional...

Find an instructor who does instructing as a hobby, ie retired guy, etc. Thats truly the best and most insightful instruction.

Then go to the cheapest place to find an airplane. Lancaster (LNC) has a new 172 THAT IS AIRCONDITIONED for I think 90 bucks an hour wet. Everyone else charges over a hundred bucks for a no A/c 172...

Skymates!

Top notch outfit. Worth the drive. One of the few honest flight schools around. Plus, Addison is WAY too busy for training.
