Law of Learning No. 1: Law of Readiness

Probably the biggest surprise of all was discovering there were plenty of people trying to learn to fly who didn't even LIKE it -- they just felt it was what they needed to do, for a myriad of reasons -- and I was stunned. It had never occurred to me that people would go through all this, and not love it like I did. It was an eye-opener... and explains a lot I have seen, then and now.
We had a number of Riddlers like that. They were hard to teach. I recall one telling someone that he/she was there because he/she had nothing else to do at the time. If you're not ready to learn, no instructor can motivate you, no matter how good he/she is.
I enjoy your posts.....
Thanks, my friend.

As I wrote above, I am 99.99% sure the Mesa hired my student and eventually upgraded him to Captain. Dropping him a grade would have impacted him because Mesa students must maintain a B or better average in flight courses as one qual for getting "the interview." He was absolutely fixated on getting "the interview." I couldn't convince him that getting "the interview" would take care of itself if he would concentrate on his training only.
