My daughter is starting to take flying lessions and I was wondering what are the best books to get someone to learn the fundamentals all the way to getting a private pilot licence? I have been looking at what sporty's offers.

PS which test prep book is the best, ASA, Gleim,or Jepps ?

Jepps is expensive but probably have more info.
Gleims and ASA are about the same price but I prefer ASA.

Also think about getting ground instuction video DVDs. These help also.
You can get a Private Pilot Kit which usually comes with everything you need or you can buy them separate. Your choice.

Here is a list that will keep her busy for a while:

Airplane Flying Handbook
Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge
Private PTS (ASA makes a good one also)
FAR/AIM
Aviation Weather Services
Aviation Weather

All the above can be downloaded and printed for free from the FAA's website. http://www.faa.gov/education_research/

As far as test prep, I recommend the Gliem books and software.

Jepp's Private Manual is probably the best overall book to get. Check out Ebay or Amazon for a used copy and save her some bucks. $75 new, $40 used http://www.amazon.com/Private-Manual-JS314500-Jeppesen-Sanderson/dp/0884872386

As stated above, you can get a private pilot kit by Jepp that includes books on manuvers, written study guides, FAR/AIM and everything else you would need. It is around $200+.

I can't wait to start teaching my son to fly. Only problem is he is two.
