Preferential bidding dynamics

I'm hearing mixed reviews of preferential bidding. One is that it is great for having some control over your schedule but also you could lose the advantage of vacation time by having the bulk of your flying take place in the rest of the month essentially turning your vacation time into time you would have had off anyway. How does it work in practice? Pros/cons?

Depends on who controls what. If management is allowed to control a lot of the variables, you're better off without it.
