No comment on Dubya's speech today... however....

If you attended a service academy.. who was the best POTUS to give a speech.

1. GWB
2. GWHB
3. Clinton
4. Regan
5. Jimmy C.
6. LBJ
7. Nixon
8. Ford
9. JFK

(I don't know if all of the above gave a commencement speech....)

I was at the boat school in '98 when slick willy gave the speech which turned out to be about the time that an intern was becoming famous.

Got mine from Slick Willy. Absolutely terrible.

Clinton. Just after we invaded Somalia and shortly before our unilateral, pre-emptive, nation-building, unprovoked, non-UN sanctioned war on Bosnia.

Had the Thunderbirds fly right over our heads today making their (possible) final wrapped-up turn for the commencement pass. They were under a low overcast layer (<1K?) in mtn terrain. It was a 4 plane diamond with two in trail. Not sure if that's how they passed over the stadium (probably not) considering how low they were squeezed to the ground. But it was impressive to see them fly that way. I didn't know the AF could do something like that. :D

...that killed 4,100 of ours, left the region in chaos, and had nothing to do with 9/11.

Oopsy! Wrong President!

I got him confused with Mr. "Mission Accomplished!"

The war in The Former Rep of Yugoslavia burns my ass. I flew gunships over that area for 4 years, got shot at more times than I can count, flew all over the country-side looking for ACC's finest - Capt Scott O'grady, and took out some Serb EW sites and Ammo dumps. All to protect the Bosnians from the atrocities being committed. At the time, I thought it was a good cause..........
until I saw the story of the BOSNIAN MUSLIM who tried to enter the Austrian embassy in Vienna with a bag of explosives. :-\

I am sure we helped the women and children that were victims of the ethnic cleansing, but we enabled the muslims and created some easy pickins' for Al Qaeda.

Thanks for the work in that quagmire, seriously. Nothing is ever black and white, but overall we (you) did the right thing there.

Atrocities were committed by all sides over there and have been since the Ottomans. But overall, the Serbs were by far the worst aggressors.
You saved a lot of lives, we won, and the region is much more stable now.
The bosnian muslims who hated us when we tried to help would hate us no matter what, so you just have to do the right thing anyway.

Well, true. I wouldnt say we "won" but, regardless, I was doing my job....the job that William J Clinton told me to do. I forgot to mention flying around looking for Ebro 33, the French Mirage that went down. One of our AC was engaged one night and came back rather perturbed then we find out the Frenchies knew where their guys were all along...and don't get me started on the DOD having us fly the SAME routes monitoring the weapons withdrawal. Same routes..same times...same altitudes. Yeah..Serbs didn't take long to figure THAT one out...almost bagged a gunship. The LM from the crew literally came back white as a ghost. Said the last missile ran out of fuel and he could have grabbed it...before it began to fall and then detonate....
I guess we did some good...but almost lost a LOT of good folks.

And the best part. One I will share with my grandkids....I was flying "training" missions over Bosnia, being shot at every few missions, working with TACPs...and logging T3GA or P5P (thats the code for "Deny Flight" which meant squat) time. For you non AF types..T3GA is the code for LOCAL TRAINING. The idiot higher ups never even let us log COMBAT TIME. So, I had quite a few AAA rounds come up at me on official training missions.

Back on topic, since I turned my appt to the AFA down, I guess I missed out on a Presidential speech.

Yeah, right.
I feel so much better knowing we suppressed a bunch of Orthodox Christians, so that the Muslims could gain yet another foothold.

I agree, but back then it seemed the right thing to do. I read some atrocity reports. Not good.

I thought you could make it through one thread without trashing Bush.

You're right, almost. More then 4100 somalies (sp) died after we left the region in chaos. It is true it had nothing to do with 9-11. Of course President Clinton running away with his tail between his legs after the battle had nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden thinking he could defeat us. That is if you are willing to overlook Bin Ladens own words saying that it inspired him to attack us.

Clinton never got the opportunity to say "mission accomplished". I fully supported our efforts in Bosnia and thought it was the correct thing to do. Hopefully it won't backfire on us.

Yeah, because Christians would never participate in violence...

<cough>Crusades<cough>...

Christian, Jewish, Muslim whatever. When they are fanatical they are more alike than they are different.

If you are a devout christian who thinks that a devout Muslim is your polar opposite, think again.

Yeah.... back to original thread:

Boat School '92. George H.W. Bush. Very classy speech and he handed out all 1000 or so diplomas. I think he even gave a buck to the anchor man.

It was all fine up to the point when one of my classmates (wish I could remember who it was) tried to give him a high five and accidently slapped him in the face... Dooohhhhh!
