Hi everybody , I am new on this forum . Since I was about 10years old , all I ever thought about doing was being a commercial pilot . The only problem is that I live in South Africa and we don`t exactly have the standard of flight training needed to become a commercial pilot . SAA does have a training scheme but because of affirmative action I wont be able to parttake in that program .

I have searched the internet and magazines for training facilities elsewhere in the world and have found a few . The only problem being that with our weak currency it is going to be impossible for me to pay for that education . I have looked at alot of financing institutions and there defenately are a few viable options .

I am looking for advice on how and where to get my training . If anyone has advice on training facilities and where I can get financing please feel free to contact me

If you are a caucasian in south africa, aren't YOU the minority?

That should qualify you for affirmative action!

:D

Look into Mazzei Flying Service in Fresno, California. I did my training there. They will (I think) sponsor your visa. PM me if you have any questions.

Schools

Start with any of the major Florida flight schools. Here are two that I know:

FlightSafety Academy has been training non-U.S. students for years. It knows about helping foreign students get visas. It might be able to help with loans.

Another is Comair Aviation Academy. It might be worth your while because it, too, trains foreign students. I understand it has a JAA license program, which might help you when you go home. I do not believe that FSI trains self-funded students for JAA licenses.

Don't stop there. Try running a web search on "JAA license." You should get back plenty of ideas.

Would any local person or organization in South Africa be willing to sponsor you? Such things have been known to happen.

Good luck with your efforts.

Okay Deftone, you asked to be corrected if wrong...Whites make up about 14% of the population of South Africa. Remember apartheid? That's where the minority population (whites) ruled the majority (blacks), and then some fellow named Nelson Mandela came along.

I remember Nelson Mandella.

He's the guy who tied up his enemies, placed an old tire full of gasoline arond their necks, and lit it up.

A nice man, and very supportive of the United States.

Can you say thug? I knew you could.

Didn't we pressure SA to let Mandela out? All we get in return is lip service about how we are the bad guys from him, what a joke.
No good deed goes unpunished.
