What would be a fair price these days?

Get up at 5 am and drive 3 hours, hop on the airline for a direct 2hr flight.
Fly a good ways across the country (one long leg) right seat small jet you are typed in with the owner for his insurance requirements, then return via airline to your car, drive 3hours home.
What else do you need to know? I cannot do this for $300 but I can't see how the owner can justify paying much more.

Instruction, Long duty day, Wear and tear on your car.

Wouldnt do it less than 800

Doesn't matter its gotta be a 20hr day. He'll be lucky if he doesn't fall asleep on his way home and total his car. If he was smart he'd also require a hotel at the destination and then airline home the next day.

The guy is trying to get 2 days work out of a 1 day pay.

Im a-listening.
Have considered the hotel deal... if I don't stick overnight somewhere I will be a mess the next day anyway.
It might be a once a month gig, to different locations.
Any Citation drivers in Tulsa that want this, it would be a cinch if you were based there. PM me. If I decline it, I will be asking if he wants other names.
The thing is, he has a regular babysitter er copilot who Im sure is doing this for $200, maybe less!
Make no comments on this last sentence...we are all well aware of where that leaves the rest of us.

I'd throw a real number at him. Let him either pay you or get some poor schmuck to do it at 200 bucks a day.

Id demand a good wage. It doesn't sound like you want the problems that will come along with this.

OK it is much closer to the number you posted, Diesel.
2 days $800.
Now.
The airline fare is going to be $500 to get me there and back, the parking $60, the hotel probably 2 nights at $200.
I am not great at math but I figure that is all theirs too, otherwise I will return home less than what I started after I buy meals and gas!
Tell me what is fair.

GH,

The owner pays it ALL--daily rate, airline tickets, hotel, meals, etc.

If he can afford the jet, he can afford all of the above.

Ultraman

$500 per day plus expenses, hotel, meals, etc. That's the going rate for typed contract pilots in small jets. I know a guy doing contract in a malibu (SE US) for $750.

Two days of work @ 500 a day= 1000.00
Hotel Hilton, Sheraton, marriot Yuck 120.00 (not sure if 2 nights then it should be 3 days work adjust math accordingly.)
Airline 500.00
Parking 60
6 hrs of driving 360 miles x .37 cents= 133.20
1.5 days of breakfast, lunch, dinner= 70
Total bill to owner for services should be around $1883.20

The story I had was 3rd hand, and turns out a little different than I was told.
The owner is a pilot but stays in the back as he does not meet the insurance requirements. The airplane is based near me as that is how they got my name, through the jet pilot grapevine (!). So that would explain why they are looking here, they don't know anyone where they are right now. The usual right seater is unavailable, had to come home for something.

But you said the airplane is based near you? What gives with the long flight and your travel to get there etc. etc?

With the glut of pilots with ratings up their rear ends pounding the streets, something smells about this situation. Not directed to you either.

Had to come home for some reason is a huge red flag all by itself. But back to the original question. I would tell them to take a hike with the normal daily rate as travel and extended time is involved.

hey what about this... they will be paying for the airline ticket but I am supposed to buy the ticket and they will reimburse me?? why don't you buy ME a ticket and I will be there at the assigned time?
Is that an expected duty, to go out on the limb for the airline ticket? The adverse possibilities are astounding. If I knew the company well, it might be ok...

When ever I hire a contractor I always give him or her the choice if they want to purcahse, fine. If not, I will take care of it.

This entire deals sounds a bit fishy to me.

The airline ticket is not a big deal if you know the company well and you are reasonably sure they won't stiff you on it. If you do alot of contract flying you'll cycle thousands of dollars through your credit card that (hopefully) has some sort of point/mile reward system.

But, whatver you feel comfortable with. This detail should not be a sticking point.

FYI
The standard Gov't mileage rate is now $0.445/mile.
