Has anyone here ever used this model headset in an Embraer before? It's a lot like Telex's 5x5, only a lot cheaper -- it has the single earpiece that sticks in your ear and can be fitted with a molden earpiece. How is its performance? Is the cockpit too loud for these?

I have a Plantronics (not sure of the model number- but it is the tiny little one that I got a custom ear mould for). It was great in quite cockpits (Lears), but I've been afraid to try it in the 145. The 145 has a very noisy cockpit (wind noise) and I would highly suggest some full-size, head-crushing David Clarks. It might work with an earplug and a soft custom moulded ear piece that fits tight enough to keep out the noise, but 99 percent of the pilots I know in 145s use the big head clamps.

A buddy of mine used the Plantronics in the CRJ. He used it for about 6 months before ditching it. It picked up waaaay too much background noise.

Thats why it is cheaper. It has a voice tube, not a noise canceling mic like the telex. Go with the telex. It works much better in an airplane with and intercom.

JTF: Thanks for the info. I've been flying the ERJ for two years now, and have been using DC's all that time. I'm getting tired of the head vise.

SkywayFO: What I figured. I didn't know the reason why; that makes sense.

I have been on the ERJ for 4 years now. I started with the Plantronics, but returned it for the Telex 5X5. The plantronics picks up too much background noise. The Telex has a true Mic located at the end rather than a tube that funnels the sound like the Plan. The Telex also has an adjustment that allows you to turn down the mic sensitivity. With is properly adjusted you hear no more air noise in the ear than with the DC's.

good luck.
