Do you think it would be possible to build a plane from the ground up from aircraft parts found on Ebay?

I'm just curious..... I think you could. There are thousands of parts on Ebay.

Sure. Getting an airworthiness certificate may be a pretty big problem though. ONce upon a time you could do this....build an airplane from spare parts, and have a conformity inspection done (inspection to ensure the aircraft conforms with the type certificate) and the FAA would issue you a new serial number and airworthiness certificate) The FAA stopped doing this because of political pressure brought by New Piper. They wanted to stop CUb Crafters (among others) from building Super Cubs, even though New Piper has absolutely no interest in ever making another PA-18. This forced Cub Crafters to get thier own type certificate for an airplane that is amazingly like the PA-18.

Bottome line, yeah you could build one, legally flying it would be a problem.

Yeah, I guess it would be something like the psycho-billy cessna

The maintenance log would be huge ... you'd have to comply with ADs for a 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 aerooooooplane

These days anything possible, Johnny Cash built a Cadillac one piece at a time.

"But it didn't cost him a dime."

You'd have to pay for the parts if you got it from ebay.

So the secret is to get a job at Cessna and sneak it out in your lunchbox and your buddy's mobile home.
