hey everyone, i'm gonna start training for my PPL soon. i just cannot find any schools or programs or whatever. is there any program or CFI at centennial airport that is good? or just anywhere in colorado? thanks

If you go to AOPA's website (www.aopa.org), they have a whole section on learning to fly. It includes a flight school database, organized by state. There are a bunch of flight schools in the Denver area, including some big ones at Centennial. Try looking at that database.

There are a number of options available at Centennial Airport. Aspen Flying Club (http://www.aspenflyingclub.com/) and Flight Inc (http://www.flights-inc.com/index.html) are the two largest with about 100 or so training aircraft between them. There was a third well-known one, Wings of Denver, but it was purchased by Flights last year.

Both have quality programs, but there are some differences in fleet, focus and cost. Their web sites have god information on their policies, procedures and fleets. One think you might consider about Aspen is dropping by this coming Saturday at 9 am. Aspen has quarterly safety meetings for student pilots and there is one that day. You'd be welcome to join in.

I teach at both so if I can answer any questions about either or some other alternatives, feel free PM me with your email address or click on the link to my web site and contact me by email.

McAir aviation at BJC is a great place to learn. New planes and great instructors. I got my ppl and inst. with McAir and am working on the Multi commercial as we speak. They also have financing available. Journeys aviation wasn't around when I started, but I did check out many places in the Denver Metro area and went with McAir.. They have the best insurance in the metro area and a waiver of subrogation. No brainer, go with McAir. www.mcairaviation.com

Pretty much every airport you go to in the Denver area has at least one flight school (except Denver Intl, of course). Centennial and Jeffco have already been mentioned. I don't know much about Front Range but I do know that instruction is done out of there. Boulder, Erie, and Longmont (all on the north side of Denver) have flight schools aswell. I personally instruct at Erie and can offer any information you'd like if that airport is one you're considering.

Hi Phish
Sounds like you are in Denver, but if you are Military, retierd-mil, Civil Servant, or gov't employee/contractor there is the Peterson AFB Flight Training Center in Colorado Springs.
The other worthwhile schools in the Springs are A-Cent Aviation and Pikes Peak Pilot Center, both good places to learn.

Let me know if I can help with info on any of these schools.

hey thanks :) i'm in centennial, APA is 10 minutes from my house and i go to high school right up arapahoe road. get to watch planes on approach and departing on the way to/from school every day. it's awesome, runway is like 1000 feet on the right of arapahoe road so they come in right above me sometimes. i think since APA is always busy i'm gonna look into the Journeys thing. thanks for the info everyone, it was all very helpful for someone who has no idea where to start

Front Range has Daedalus - I've heard they are really great. A friend of mine teaches out there. Prices are very reasonable....much more so than McAir at Jeffco.

I agree with "bustinmins." Had to put that one in quotes :) I trained out of Front Range airport. They have a few schools there. Daedulus (probably mispelled that one: sorry guys) AeroFlight and I think one or two more independently operated schools. Those 2 are the bigger ones at Front Range. I haven't been there in over a year, but prices at AeroFlight were around $60 - $65 for a C172 up to $125 for the Seminole. If your trying to save money and willing to make the drive, Front Range is the way to go. I taught there for 2 years and it's a great airport for your instrument rating. Centennial is soo busy that you can't always do a full instrument approach without a Lear on your butt. Front Range is uncontrolled and it's easier to to a full approach to mins, just watch out for those weekend homebuilt warriors that love to takeoff off when your on short final :) Keep in mind at Centennial on a Saturday, you'll get to spend alot of time reviewing airport signs, especially that hold short line :) Fly safe and hope that helps.
