For all you Pitts guys out there.. I've only been in an S2C.. never flown any of the smaller Pitts.. I'm looking to pick up something that I can fly a little more aggressively than my Rv6.. Been thinking about a Pitts or something along the line of a Pitts.. I'd like to have something like a Yak 55, but the Pitts S1S seems to be easier on the wallet in upfront costs and flying the thing..

I know I need to find one and get in it, but before I get that..

Would a 6'3" 250lb fella work in a pitts s1s or should I start looking for something more like an S2A??

A buddy of mine has an EAA Bipe and I tried to get into that thing and it was a disaster.. :)

Christen Eagles are supposed to be bigger on the inside than Pittses.

There was a guy a while back that had a Pitts for sale that he had modified to fit larger pilots. Very nice bird as I remember, and at a reasonable price, too. I'll see if I can find it again if it's still available and PM you the details. As far as a Stock S1-S goes, you might get in it, but getting in it and being comfortable in it are two different things. Plus you've got to think about the unthinkable also.... IF something catastrophic should happen and you've got to get out of it in flight, can you squeeze your butt back out of it without getting yourself hung up in the process.

Do you have long legs? That is my main issue when squeezing into the S-1's. I tried to get into an S-1A and wouldn't fit because my knees were banging up against the underside of the panel. The later models of the S-1, I seem to do OK in.

The Pitts S-1 I used to own was modified by the previous owner to fit larger guys. He cut the steel tubing behind the pilot that supports the seat-back and moved it back about an inch and half. I was able to sit in that airplane with my legs slightly bent at the knees.

Ill Mitch- That is exactly what happened to me in my friends EAA Bipe..

Those EAA biplanes are a tight squeeze. I can't fit into them. Try to locate a few S-1's in your area and see if you can sit in them to try them on for size.

Yeh, I didn't even get fully into the cockpit.. It's a shame too.. Looks like a fun lil' airplane to fly.. :)
