I am meeting with the owner of a charter outfit in MD that operates a couple of Piper Navajo's.

I have a couple of questions.

1) Can this aircraft be used as single pilot operations?
2) What pay can be expected as either PIC or SIC under part 135?
3) Navajo training. Is this typically done in house or at a training center?

Thank you for your input in advance.

With your experience you should know that a Navajo is ususally flown single pilot. They are really easy to fly, compare it to a big Dutchess. As far a training goes, insurance is what drives all training these days. I have seen in house for most Navajo operators and some go to Simcom. If you do get hired and do in house training try to get your hands on the Simcom manual for the plane, its simple and covers everything. As far as salary goes, in that area it seems like low $30's, but that is more of a guess. Good Luck

1) While we staff ours with two crewmembers (lot's of hard IFR in our region, plus passengers like it) the Navajo can very easily be flown single pilot.

2) Our CA's are paid salary commensurate with their experience. Since we hire a large number of furloughee's (as far as a percentage of total number of cremembers), we try not to make it such a painful reduction in pay for them. I'd say our average starting pay for CA's is around mid $30's, with our FO's starting in the low $20's.

Keep in mind that our CA's average about 8,000 hrs and our FO's about 700 or so (rough estimates for both figures).

3) We send ours folks to a company in Ill for both initial and recurrent.
