Hey all,
I just started instructing a guy who owns an Aztec Turbo. The POH doesn't have any instructions on how to do any maneuvers. Just wondering if any of you have an outline or guide on specific power settings and speeds for various maneuvers.
Thanks

You have 1100 hours and your looking in the POH for instructions to do maneuvers? I'm reminded of the Bugs Bunny episode where he pulls out his "How to Fly" book. :)

What manuevers exactly?

I own a PA-30 and we just made up all the numbers. The manuals for these old airplanes is useless .. its a "marketing manual."

I went up with a pilot friend in the plane and shot approaches, etc., and expiremented with various power settings and what not and wrote it all down. We did stalls, steep turns, etc., and just wrote down what power settings we need to get the speed below Va to do the maneuvers.

Hey Vik,

Thanks for the decent reply. I've been doing the trial thing by adjusting power settings. The thing thats getting me is the power settings to use when in the pattern and landing normal and short field. I'd appreciate any numbers you have.
Thanks

For the PA-30, I use 16"-17" for shooting approaches and around that for slowing to below Va to do maneuvers. The rest of it goes just like every other complex plane .. is it a cruise maneuver or slow flight maneuver and you configure as required.

In the PA-30, you cannot do power on stalls with 2000RPM or above and thats in the Approved Flight Manual thats required to be in the plane.

Engine out practice is done once in awhile and the power is reduced very very gradually to prevent shock cooling as much as possible. I prefer to actually rent someone else's plane and do it in that but once in 6 months I'll do it in the PA-30.

Try checking with Aircraft Publications in Texas, 512-250-9350. They sell GAMA format POH's for the PA-30 which are much more detailed. It is around $50 but if he sells one for an Aztec, it might have what you need.

Lenair Aviation at SNA rents Aztec's. You could politely ask to speak to one of the instructors that flies it and politely, CFI to CFI, ask to have the paperwork sent to you.

I'm sorry I'm not of much more help but I mainly use my plane for x-c's and haven't done maneuvers in awhile.

Careful with the turbo. On PA-30T's, the turbo is manually operated .. lots of use'n and abuse'n going on.
