As I am reading through a Pinnacle Application for Employment...I noticed that it states in effect

- if you leave the company within 1 (one) year...you will be responsible for the repayment of training costs to the company.

Whats up with that. I thought that did not go on anymore.

Thanks.

Just don't sign the back, you don't have to in the state of Tennessee (little known fact). I didn't and I'm going on 4 years here (oh God, did I just say that?)

Incidentally, training reimbursement isn't PFT. PFT would be Gulfstream, and yes, we're still hiring GIA guys & gals.

pretty much every company has some kind of training agreement letter when you first start or switch equipment. It’s not PFT. usually they are 12 to 24 months pro rated as you pass the either the 6th or 12th month point with some also tied to what kind of notice you give before leaving... it's been discussed on here before as to if they are enforceable. I don't think it has ever been settled if they are or are not.. my guess would be it would depend on the current situation of the company and under what circumstances you left the company. I’ve been told that some states it may not be enforceable as well as must be witnessed and stamped by a public notary to be a legal document. The company could always make you hire a 200 dollar an hour lawyer just to drop the issue a month later. basically it's just a way to threaten you into not leaving for the first year and a way from them to recover the training cost if you do...

While not technically PFT, it is PFT if you leave within one year.

Not if you never pay them. As said earlier, most regionals have a similar type of employment contract. I think I saw a few weeks ago on this board that Mesaba's contract is valued at $20,000+. I've known many people here at PNCL that left before the one year was up and nobody has paid.

my opinion is that it is not PFT.. historically true PFT is paying a set amount out of your pocket for either the interview or job in the first place the company is not gaining from every pilot from a training agreement unless you leave.. but this is a forum and opinions are like bungholes...everyone has one...

here's an older article that explains it alittle more
