Came back from RDU thursday the 26th into EWR on COA flt1044. Was a 737. Winds were pretty heavy thurs night, 320@25 with stronger gusts. My pilot knew what he was doing. With a whole 9 hours under my belt I am noticing the more technical aspects. He wasn't afraid to put us in a steep bank (I swear it was 40 degrees) to get us lined up with the 20 or so a/c in front of us. And his plane doesnt skid like the c172 I fly
. Then I got my first strong crosswind landing demo. Banked maybe 15 or 20 to the left, landed on the left main and held it for it seemed like an eternity, then gently placed the right main in contact with the ground, then the nose just as softly. I got goosebumps. I could never imagine having the control of a large a/c like that and making it do what you want. I wanted to thank him or even just get a look at him; maybe some of his skill would rub off. Used to be able to get close.
I used to collect the flight plan on every flight I took pre sept 2001. Then one encounter with a SWA pilot in dec of 01 stopped that request. Wasnt a nasty exchange or anything, he just gave me the third degree. How do you explain why you want a flight plan? I felt like I was doing something wrong. So now I avoid it.
Any atp's encounter strange requests from the pax ?
[just stumbled on this board today...amazing insight from many experienced pilots. expect more 'green behind the ears' post from me
