Any pilots out there who went to OTS?

How do you find out what base you'll get for JSUPT?

Is there a dream sheet you fill out with your preferences?

If so, when is that request made???

Can you request to go Sheppard AFB (Euro-Nato as well).

My background is ROTC (back in the late '80s) so I'm looking for some info for someone who just got an OTS/Pilot slot.

ANY info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I believe that if you go to OTS for active duty, you can fill out a "dream sheet" for your UPT base. You can also apply for ENJJPT while in OTS.

For ANG and Reserves, I think that you are assigned a UPT base, and you don't fill out a "dream sheet". I could be wrong though....

Thanks

Chawbein,

Specifically, he'll be Active Duty...

Time frame, does anyone know when that happens (eg. right at the beginning, or close to the end?)

What I'm getting at is will he have time (and an opportunity) to talk to some people during OTS (or does he need to have his dream sheet mentally prepared ahead of time)???

Thanks

Are all phases of UPT at the same base? Looks like I'm going the T-1 route...

Unfortunately, I don't have any more details than that. I am including a link to a guy's journal that went AD OTS. He ended up SIEing from SUPT. I read the entire thing several months ago, but it might do some good for your acquaintance to check it out.

Link

Edit:
Here's another link for a guy who is going through right now. He posted alot of information on this site. Search for Vandal. Sonic Cruzer also posted lot's of information.

I'm sure that Laughlin, Columbus, and Vance have all three phases of SUPT at the same base, unless you are going to be a herc driver, then you will go to Corpus Christi for T-44's.

Oh yeah, as an Active Duty type, you can apply to do the actual Joint part of Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training and go to Pensacola to train with the Navy for Phases I and II, then to Vance for Phase III. I believe you can put Pensacola on your dream sheet as well.

I believe you find out what UPT base you are going to in the 8th week of OTS. Also, if you go to Moody for UPT, you will leave after T-6's for another base no matter what track you are selected for.

The active duty guys did their dreamsheats for upt bases about halfway through OTS. Guard/Reserve guys know where they are going from the time they get their initial AMS/OTS orders. It is based on performance so at least in my OTS class the top guys went to Moody for T-6's, etc. There is also usually ONE ENJJPT (or whatever the acronym) is slot that usually goes to the top pilot graduate, plus there is an alternate if they find out the main is a crack dealer or something. The only time you move bases is if you are at Moody you have to leave since all they have are T-6's, and if you get a T-44 then you go to corpus. You can go C-130's out of T-1's (I'm living proof) but for you active duty guys it is rare to get a 130 out of T-1's.

Steeler Fan, the info previously posted is pretty close. I have a friend who graduated OTS today and he told me the process has not changed. I went through about 18 months ago, and the process was the same then. As far as ENJJPT goes, that is sort of a grey area. When I went through OTS, there was only one guy in the whole OTS class who had a slot for ENJJPT. I asked him how he got it, and he mentioned to me that he new before he ever got to OTS that he was going. Everyone I have ever met who went through ENJJPT knew way in advance they were going, since it is a highly competitive slot you have to apply for in addition to getting selected for UPT. As far as filling out a dream sheet for UPT bases, the active duty guys (I went through as a Reservist) filled one out just like the other replies described. I sat next to a guy who was filling his out, and there was no ENJJPT slot even listed as a choice. However, all of the other bases were listed, and most guys were pretty happy with what they got. As far as getting C-130's out of T-1's, I finished up UPT in October (T-44's in Corpus), and nobody was getting the Herc unless they came through T-44's due to the training pipeline being so backed up at Little Rock. I hope this helps...

I just graduated OTS in Dec and here's how it worked for our class.

You fill out a "dream sheet" about halfway through and you find out where you're going week 9 or 10. It is not based on performance. I got my first choice and my roomate got his first choice (moody) and neither or us were top performers at OTS.

If you want to go to Sheppard you have to write a memo detailing why you should be selected. You also have to have your FTO's approval and they have to write a recommendation too. From what I could tell, the ENJJPT selection is based on your rank at OTS and not much else. Flight time, BAT, AFOQT, letters of rec, etc. (all the stuff that got you to OTS) doesn't matter, so if you have a hard on to go to Sheppard better make a name for yourself at OTS, otherwise don't bust your ass excessively because the last guy and the first guy are both 2lt's and the end of twelve weeks.
