Question for you folks.
I'm in the process of putting together a packet for pilot selection at my unit. I qualify well and have lots of civ. flight time and think I have a real good shot at it with my unit. Only problem: I get real jumpy in the doctors office and my BP always reads way higher than it really is. Will they work with me on this? Is it waiverable? I usually keep a record of it at home to show my medical examiner when I take my physicals here. Other than that...no problems and I'm fit as a fiddle.

Thanks

Your unit should work with you on it. The cool thing is your units flight surgeon does your FC1 and be up front with him. Tell him you don't have hight blood pres. just you get nervous. if you have documents to show this then I don't think it would be a problem. Go down and talk to the medical people before hand about it.

Good luck

I have the same EXACT problem and do the same exact thing as you do (taking BP daily at home). If I do it myself in the comfort of my own home its 125/70 all day long.

When I went and tokk my military flight physical I went ahead and warned the doc of my problem, he said no problem, happens to a lot of people. He took it and the 1st time, your going to flip, it was 162/80. He said WOOOOOOOO. You need to calm down. He kept telling me that I was stressing adn I was.

He sent me to another room and put the cuff on me and left the room and told me he was just going to pop in and take it without notice. He came back maybe 15 minutes later (I played games on my cell phone to keep my mind off the whole thing) and took it and it was 129/77. That was a pass even though it wasnt as low as my BP usually is. To make a long story short I had no problems getting my mil flt physical approved.

Yeah, I'm really bad about it. At home I'm usually around 128/70...I get so nervous in the docs office....worry about losing my job for some stupid thing like this...last time I jacked it up all the way to 180/70 at one point! (heart rate was like 102) ( Went in to the ER for a broken wrist a few months later and it read 130/70 in the ER!! HA!!) I guess it's just a stupid phobia that I have. I just take a record of it and bring it in to show the doc...he's usually cool with it. I know the doc at guard reall well and he knows my situation...he took a BP record for me 7 years ago when I did the same thing joining the enlisted side. Oh well, if the worst comes to pass at my mil physical...I've always got my cropdusting gig. dear god
