FreightFlyer,

Would you mind posting how many aircraft/pilots Ameristar operates? Is upgrade possible to the 737 from the lear or Falcon?

We operate 13 Falcon 20's, 15 Lear 24/25's. Our 121 department operates 2 737-200's and our 125 has 3 dc-9's. We do have a flow through to the DC-9's and 737's and are currently moving some 135 captains over at this time. The automotive airfreight biz seems to be recovering and we expect to be fairly busy through the rest of this year.

More q's about Ameristar...

Hi freightflyer,

Thanks for the info. Would you mind posting few more important things about Ameristar, such as pay for FO's and CPT's, bases, how long it takes to upgrade to CPT, etc.

Thanks very much.

Just wondering why they are also asking for captains? Do they not upgrade from within? What are the company minimums for Captains?
The posting also states that you must sign a non-compete agreement? Any info on that? Can you not work for another cargo company after leaving?
What is "Very competitive salary?"

Used to work for them long time ago.

Non-compete agreement:

You will pretty much sign away your right to go to another job (they even used to include fractionals) within six months of leaving Ameristar.

Schedule:

10 on 4 off - in reality 11 on 3 off (have friends that still work there and that's their opinion)

Equipment:

Pretty bad maintnance - owner known for removing squawks and write ups. Dispatch "tells" maintnance when an airplane will be ready.

They used to have (and I think they still do) an 18 month NON-prorated training bond - and after about 18 months it's time to upgrade....and a NEW training bond.....then maybe you get to go to the 121 side...and a NEW training bond.....

Good place to get experience - if you manage not to get violated - or even worse.........

Whaaaat?

You're kidding about this part, right? How can a company dictate where you go to work after you've quit them? Can't be. So what you're saying is, after I quit Ameristar I gotta go flip burgers or work at Home Depot for 6 months? That's insane, and if anyone abides by a stupid, illegal rule like that, you gotta be an idiot, and the company is pretty freakin' lame for even saying such crap.

That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard...

Non-compete agreements are pretty common among high level executive types but FREIGHT DOGS?! C'mon!

Gotta love this business!

Stupid or not - their non-compete agreement lists a bunch of companies (mostly freight but they used to iclude the frax as well) where you can NOT work for six months after you left Ameristar. That is the main reason I left.....they required me to sign it in order to upgrade.

Legal or not....that's up to a judge in Texas to decide...and the owners brother is known for doing him favors - and your life miserable (know a couple of people that they took to court).

But hey....I may be wrong...maybe things changed for the better... freightflyer why don't you clear this up?

I had to sign a non-compete agreement to work a blue collar job. It's not just for executives. It's to keep competitors from stealing your labor pool.
