Just saw a 10 second blurb on ABC national news, a Pilatus went down, N770G.

Anyone have a link to the story?

I was worried it might have been a PC12 on our ramp, but turns out it departed out of APF. God be with the family and pilot's on board. I wish every plane a good safe flight, as I watch a family with children excitedly climb the steps....

Although you cannot live life always afraid of dying, but never board the plane thinking it will never happen to you....

I love the A/C though.....we see quite a few out here, but seems like there have been quite a few accidents lately with them...

Interestingly, I happened to be driving the truck that fueled this plane when it went down. I was instructed to take it out of service; luckily, the FAA ended up clearing us.

Not quite sure when it was fueled or how much it took. However, I'm pretty confident it was a top off if the crew was going that far, especially in lousy weather. Pictures I've seen of the crash site indicate little or no fire, so fuel exhaustion is definitely a possibility. If I learn more, I'll keep you all updated.

lear2460, is that your picture in your avatar?

Yep. That be me.

I was thinking the crash perhaps was due to icing issues? The earlier post talked about refueling the A/C.... Did they get their fuel with Prist? Just curious....I dont know much about Pilatus, but I would think it would be about the right time for their fuel to be cold-soaked when they reached PA...

Finally! A pretty face to look at, instead of all you ugly MF'rs.

Since the PC-12 has an oil/fuel heat exchanger it doesn't need Prist. We would fuel up with it from time to time for its anti-fungle properties though. Now days with a fair amount of the fuel pre-mixed, it would be pointless to pay for it.

Airframe icing or ice injestion would more likely be the culprit, but the PC-12 handles both very well if you're running the systems correctly.

I thought all PT-6 powered airplanes had the oil/fuel heat exchanger? I recall from my KA days that there was a chart in the AFM to look up OAT to see if an anti-ice additive was required based on flight planned OAT/Fuel temp.

Maybe the PC-12 is different.

Ummm, you should check your POH, the PC-12 does require prist when operated in ambient temperature below 0 degrees C.

Yeppers. We are pre-blended.

Hey Hal,

How come you're Avatar doesn't work on this site like it does on the ATA Flightcrews site. Something seemed amiss.
