Hello,

I'm starting in the JAN 6 class, and have a question regarding bases.

Which base(s) do you all think would be the easiest to commute to MSP. As far as I can tell, Charlotte is the only one-leg trip out there- so I assume that would be the easiest.

What do you think would be your best bets in order 1-6 and why?

Thanks alot,

Erik

Doesnt NW have a flight to ORF? If not, that is probably your second bet. Or ROA. I remember a lot of crewmembers flew MSP - PIT - ROA.

CLT is probably the most senior base. Chances are you'll be based in CHO, EWN, ROA, or ORF/PHF.

Rumor is that there will be a base alignment in Jan.

I had heard that CLT was senior, but Bob Trout indicated that more pilots would be getting based there. I saw some paperwork in the training room at SBY that indicated 3 or 4 people in the last class got CLT.

What do the rumours say about this base re-allignment?

Thanks,
Erik

The CHO commute isnt too bad. PDT serves CLT, PIT and PHL out of CHO. Most passengers prefer jets to props in CHO, so everyday of the week there are seats open.
As a newhire at PDT, I would consider moving to your base. The schedules are horrible even for senior pilots. You will be molested on Reserve with 10 random days off a month.
Consider using PDT for experience and 121 time, then go to a more quality airline to gain jet and capt. experience. Comair, etc. There wont be much movement at PDT toward upgrade. And dont let Trout, the union or a mgmt. joker at PDT let you think jets are comming. Get your time, then kiss PDT good bye.

No disrespect to PDT pilots, but PDT cannot compare to a lot of faster growing jet-operating regionals like CHQ and Sky West in terms of aircraft quality (i.e., glass and jet time) or upgrade time (I think CHQ is 2-3 years max for Capt upgrade - not confirmed). Erika, I'd either stay on the Bravo you have flown (good glass and jet time) or reapply to one of these others.
