i was hired in july....class date was scheduled for last week...was pushed back until sept 8th....last week half of us were told that due to lack of capts, that we would be pushed back 3 weeks due the upgrading of capts to match f/o's...

many of the Piedmont Pilots/along with ALG are going to MDA, so thats cool (besides pay). Delta is not in any better shape then US Airways, wait and see! It doesnt matter where ur at. All the airlines are struggling, Get ready for pay cuts at ASA/Comair soon too. Then toss in J4J there, yes it will happen at Delta. They will go the same path as US Airways, they are bleeding cash bad, with massive layoffs ahead.

a regional, is a regional, is a regional..... Get ur time if you can and move on to the next Sh$t hole company.

All you new hires, u will fly a bunch, good first year pay! Probably better then most regionals. And if Piedmont goes away, well then get a new job. If US Airways survives you have a flow thru and will never have to interview again. 4 year F/O's are now going to MDA to fly the EMB170's, so u just never know. Its a no lose situation, good luck.

Dude dont fool yourself, I have friends at Comair.... Its not a major, its a BIG REGIONAL AIRLINE..... And dont forget there pay sucked 7 years ago, PFT and anyone that went there was bashed for PFT. Airlines go in cycles, what comes around goes around. Your cuts are coming soon, look at Delta right now, worse shape then US Airways was. TIme will tell for you guys, I hope the best for you. Enjoy your RJ, and 38.00 bucks..... But don't come on here and lay it on the new hires.. They will be fine without your break down of US Airways..... Good Day, and guess what the sun will come up tomarrow... it will be ok...

813CA,

You worked there for three years and couldn't do anything better than going to another regional, back to the right seat, making peanuts, with no upgrade time in sight? Rock on guido, I can see where the bitter attitude is coming from, one can only feel a tad sorry for you. You are in no position to slam any of these new hires, you yourself really didn't set the world on fire thus far during your time in this industry. I would mellow out just a tad and put things into perspective to "where" you are and "where you were". What a leap you made my friend, a tad of sarcasm injected in case you didn't get it.

I would love to hear how much of a pay cut you ended up taking by going from a 3rd year PDT first officer backwards to a 1st year first officer at another regional. That in itself should make you scratch your head once or twice.

I think some of your data is also incorrect pertaining to the leases. I think PDT owns quite a few of those planes and as a company they are an "asset" present day making money for Airways my friend. Take a little closer look at the facts before you come on here as the "al mighty" one.

As for the dates- the remaining 14 are to go sept. 8 (the first 14 started on the 26th)

I have heard that a class towards the end of Sept. is in place but all is speculation at this point from those who I have spoken with who seems to be in the "know".

Don't slam these guys, you have no crystal ball and I would advise these guys to take your comments at face value, and that ain't much...

good luck

Why is it always someone who has a job and more hours than me telling me not to work somewhere? I appreciate the input, but all I wanted to know about was class dates. Don't you remember going to interviews and just hoping someone would give you the chance to fly their aircraft loaded with pax even though you only had 1,000 hours? I know PDT isn't Starbucks or American Express. I would be happy to fly Dash-8's for 2 years. Am I what's wrong with this industry?

Danny,

You'll will love the dash 8's. Big cockpit, quiet, APU's (when working) Plus there's talk that many will stay for awhile now and maybe new ones will be coming. I guess they realize that a 50 seat RJ just isn't making the money with oil at 50bucks a barrel and climbing. Thats why they coverted PSA's order for less 50s, and more 70-90 seat RJ's. We will be around for a long time. Don't worry.
So now look for upgrades to fall to 2 years, I have been hear alittle over 4 years (the loser I am) and will be in the next upgrade class. If in the future you want to fly a shiney new RJ on day, you can got to MidAtlantic. This place isn't a bad move for you. You might have landed in the right place, at the right time.. Good Luck.. We all need it..

The previous statements about the leases ending are, in fact, incorrect. All of the leased Dash's have already been returned or will be shortly. With the combined PDT/ALG fleet the company has 38 OWNED aircraft.

PDT is NOT owned by US Airways(mainline carrier)!! It is owned by US Airways Group. A total liquidation of US Airways (mainline carrier) doesn't necessarily mean (theorectically speaking) a shut down of PDT - of course the question becomes who would PDT feed?? Good or bad, times are a changin' and it's an RJ world - what other carrier would want turboprop feed??? I know the recruiter at PDT is telling interviewees that "worst case scenario" is that USAir tanks and PDT will be sold to someone else as it is a profitable airline - well I think that's actually the best case scenario - the worst case(and most probable) scenario is that USAir tanks and one wants 10-15 year old turboprops and PDT fades into the sunset.

In short, I don't think that PDT will be around in 2 years either but it won't be because of lease returns.

I would go to Piedmont.....ODB. I loved it there, great experience, really good crews and good 1st year pay. Upgrade might not be so far away either.......... I think they have about 40-50 people who have not upgraded with sen # of late 2000 to 2001 (correct me if I'm wrong). Then there is a gap of no hiring (1-11/2 years) If they continue to upgrade, you will be down the list in no time. This is all reflecting on the faith UAir.....good luck to all!
