Anybody got any info on what is going on with Piedmont? Growth, are they getting jets etc!!! Anyone been asked for an interview in DEC.

we can't even spell jytes... see what I mean? nope, no jets.. put an Ap in anywhere but PDT and ALG if you want to fly the jytes.

Mark

1) get into your user control panel and
fix your ratings so your text box is the
right size...just put in your highest
rating. really, noone cares! Be creative,
what's the wierdest/most unusual flown
or be creative...lie and put down Concord
or something! Welcome to he!!.

To answer your question...I don't think that
anyone knows what is going to happen at
any of the wholy boneds(sp?). I have
friends there (er well, two out of three)
and the only thing that I have heard that
makes any kind of sense is that the current
CEO of mainline is a buddy of Lowerenstien
which is just rumor as far as I know, but it
(it really don't make sense, I didn't think he
had any buddies). The way I have looked
at it is that if you own a regional airline why
the heck are you going outside and getting
the one with the worst reputation to come
in and work for you...they get fee for depar
ture just like the WO's, you aren't saving
that much money, and you are pi$$ing off
what would otherwise probably be loyal
employees with a vested interest in seeing
mainline succeed...contractors seldom have
that interest. I know that last year Orenstien
was trying to buy a seat on the mainline BOD
and failed... someone still has some pride at
mainline! Thank God! And my best wishes for
your success!

That said, going anywhere in this business,
or staying where you are is a frigging crap
shoot. Some places give you bettter odds
for a big payoff, but noone knows what will
happen.

Become a divorce lawer...there is an endless
stream of aviators to keep you working and
you will be able to afford your own airplane!

My final wish is for the guys and gals at the
WOs. I hope that you are able to hang in
there and that eventually Mesa will be forced
to vacate the premisis.

I also got the invite for a december interview. Am really interested in anything any PDT pilots have to say and recs. I would commute, is the schedule commuter friendly. Hope all is well there and happy flying! Thanks

#1. MESA has a very good record with USAirways.....check it out.
#2. If MESA does not meet certain performance goals they take a hit in revenue... WO do not.

I second the question that Mark had at the top, what is going onat PDT? Are they taking on more US Airways flying? Looking to expand? Why the reason for interviews? Any speculation other than obvious. thanks again!

As a former PDT'er...

From what I understand from some of my buddies and if you search the boards you can see this also...

PDT is hemmoraging pilots about a rate of about 6 pilots per month bolting from the company. They have some sort of agreement for pref hiring from ALG who is losing about 1/2 of there fleet next year. PDT is safe (fleet wise) for about another year or so. BUT... With Siegel at the helm anything goes and that is most apparent by the actions that have taken place.

A few years ago PDT and ALG were always in the top 5 regional to work for, great companies, great contracts and great people... Times have changed, the companies are not so great, the contract had better days and the poeple... well, the ones still standing are still great but they are looking elsewhere too.

As for commuting.. some bases are sort of commuter friendly, more so with seniority, others are not as friendly. It all depends on where you live and where you are based.

A PDT dude could be more specific on expansion, but I doubt U is going to invest in more Dash's when they want E170's on the property. Maybe expansion on some cities to replace the 1900's of Mesa.

Piedmont is hiring because we keep leaving. We've already been told don't look to be operational beyond 2004. As the Dash 8 leases expire they are turning them in to the lessors and despite all the concessions made to "stay in the ballgame" Siegal announced that PDT and ALG would remain turboprop operators until they are phased out and that we would not get the jets. The jets are going to PSA with the lowest cost structure. Group just wants to see us die on the vine then grab our certificate for Midatlantic.

Piedmont

I will tell you why USairways won't buy jets for the wholly owneds. its plane and simple why should they invest billions in aircraft when they can contract it out. When they do that the contract carriers take all the risk they buy the airplanes they maintain them etc etc.
As for Piedmont I would look elsewhere. The place has really gone downhill fast. The schedules are horrible, very hard to commute. Probability of a future is bleak at best. I would look elsewhere. Sorry:(

That's not totaly accurate anymore. With the concessions, the WO's are now very competitive with the contract carriers. Why contract out more flying when you can keep ALL of your profits in house. Mesa will end up flying all the short and unprofitable routes, while the WO's fly the longer and more profitable routes. Its called maximizing your revenue.

PDT will be down to 39 aircraft by Jan. The fleet is not supposed to decrease in size until a couple of years after that.

The reason their hiring is because everyone is leaving. Unfortunately PDT is a sinking ship. It looks like Airways will keep them around until they get enough RJ's in the system to replace the turboprop flying.

PDT will not get RJ's because Airways has no money and no plan. Morale at PDT sucks because of this.

Schedules aren't that commutable. CLT is the only base that really has commutable lines, and it is very senior. QOL is not the companies top priority. Believe me, the morale here reflects that.

Stay Away

Avoid Piedmont like the plague, you would be much better of at any other airline. Piedmont's days are numbered. Don't come here!!
