By the paint, it looks like an Airtran A320 - which are operated by Ryan. Any idea if it is? When did this happen?

If I remember correct, this flight was out of Atlanta. Was discussed here right after it happened. They found the cowlings in some field or so near the airport.

Cheers!

I think it was one of the new NextGen 737's that Aitran has. That looks like a 737 engine pylon to me.

It was one of the 320's operated by Ryan. The engines are painted that darker blue on the new NG's.

It was a Ryan 320. It happened almost two months ago (I believe).

Are you kidding me! Does that look like a 737 engine to you. I know you stand corrected, but come on..........

With the Airtran.com on the cowling, it must have been easy to return to the rightful owner.

Yep, it was one of the A320s operated by Ryan Intl for Air Tran. It was N951LF and was operating flight 4 ATL-MCO. Both the mech and pilot missed the unlatched cowl on preflight after a daily check. One cowl was found at the end of the rwy, and the other was found about 5 miles away. The aircraft returned to ATL with no further incident (didn't even have to shut the engine down).

I seem to recall this happening with an Air Canada A320 quite a while ago, but when the cowl left the a/c, it hit the horizontal stab on the way by. The damage was severe enough to require a whole new stab be flown in from France.

if you find that cowl laying in you back yard are you allowed to keep it?
