Phoenix East advertises FO position on King Air, but requires you to pay $17K for training. Does anyone have any idea about it? is this another aviation Scam?

Sounds fishy to me. FO's aren't required in King Airs. Chances are the Captains are single pilot anyway.

Not if they have an autopilot.

Sounds like a fishy scam to me!
17K to be a King Air SIC?? damm..somebodys making good money there....

If you're gonna' pay $17K

Don't go PHX East. $17K for a postion that doesn't exist is silly. Just pony up a bit more and go to Gulfstream. 121 FO, required postion on the 1900 (And I hear they do CRJ FO's for Pinnacle now too!) Costs about $25K or something, guaranteed 250 hours of time.

It's PFT either way, but at least you'll get to log some time out of it (SIC on a plane that doesn't require a SIC is sketchy at best, maybe even falsifying logs) Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on it. :)

up to the "just pony up a bit more and go to Gulfstream" part. DON'T DO THAT EITHER! Stop paying people who should be paying you! There are jobs out there, I've been offered three in the past 8 months. Keep looking and keep the 17K in your pocket.

DON'T PFT!

leave the guy alone

If he wants to shell out the money, leave him be. The only people who cry about the pft are the ones who didn't have the money to do it themselves. I didn't have to pay only because I got lucky, but I can't say I wouldn't have done it if I was able.

May I ask where from these jobs were offered?

I think you just did. :D

Charter in Nashville and Jacksonville and Corporate in Birmingham, all jet, and declined a Comair interview because of the lack of 1st year pay.

P-F-T

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, or quacks like a duck, it is a duck, or, in this case, P-F-T.

Also a possible flight time scam. You might end up spending $17K for flight time that is of questionable legitimacy and ineligible for the airlines.

Also, what if there is "training" and for some reason, perhaps and likely contrived, you wash out. Do you get any money back? Not bloody likely. Did I hear someone mention "fraud"?

Just some points to consider. As mentioned above, it is your money.

PS-Review of your profile shows you might have some quals, including multi and turbine time from the C-208. Therefore, why on earth would you consider a P-F-T program? Go apply to a freight company that operates Caravans and be paid for building turbine time instead of you having to pay. There are even small airlines that fly Caravans, such as Rio Grande Air. I have a friend who flies for it. Apply there.

Hope that helps a little.
