Can a fellow professional please explain the average or "normal" criteria for a pay raise in the Corp. world. I know there is a wealth of experience on this board so if I can get examples through personal experience and/or NBAA averages or if NBAA has ever approached the subject I would be interested..
example:
1. $2-5B or up company.
2. Commited flight dept. with an upper level management that understands fully a range and experience of a flight department.
3. mid-size business jet traveling all over North America.
4. Median starting salary for the for an all Captain/Type rated staff. (Rotating Captians).
Ill come back and add more criteria if I can think of any.
Look forward to the responses!!:)

I think it all depends on the person and the company... Our raises are typically from about 2.5% up to around 6.0%...

completly performance driven.

A package of raise, bonus, stock, trips can be from 2%-30% of your salary.

I don't think that you can really answer this question. I worked for a company like the one you descibed for nearly 15 years. This particular company started out the "new hires" fairly low on the payscale, but the raises and bonuses came hot and heavy. When I left, I was making well over 6 figures and my company paid for retirement account will allow me to retire comfortably when the time comes. Other companies, like the one you described, tend to pay their employees more at the beginning and their pay raises are along the lines of 6%-10%.

Performance based on what? Previous budget? ..? &

"A package of raise, bonus, stock, trips can be from 2%-30% of your salary"

hellas reply: Again, how and who decides what is 2% and what is 30%, what are the specific criteria that allows which is given?

hellas reply: I have been waiting for your answer more than most, how and what does your boss base a 2% or a 6% raise? Lets say I get a 2% raise, there must be a justifiable criteria that allows me to try to attain a 6% the next year, or not. To add, in your flight dept or most flight departments, if one pilot gets a 2% raise does that mean ALL get only 2%, don't we all do basically the same job? If one person is assigned Jepps and the other commisary was his/her chip and pop duty better than my Q-service duty?
I still dont understand, If it was performance based, that implies my performance and the flight departments is measurable and quatifiable and we as a flight department add some sort of measurable profitability that can be tracked from one year to the next. And seeing that my flight deparment is an expediture that adds no measurable productivity to the company as a whole I cant see my or the flight departments performance as an answer.
I'm Still looking for a little more insight into this, Thanks for the replies so far!

The raise criteria is based on many factors... The entire company uses the same "review/performance system" we are just considered another department in the company and aren't treated any differently...

Each pilot gets an individual raise based on their performance review... There are a bunch of different catagories that are reviewed throughout the year... But things like accuracy of paperwork, timeliness of duties, completion of required duties (outside of flying), etc all play a part...

From what I understand each department is given a raise percentage and then they have to stay within a certain amount of that raise... If company says 4% salary increase, then the budget for the employees will increase by 4%, how it is divided up is based on the reviews... so some might get 5 or 6% and some might get 2 or 3%...

I will relate my experience to you all in a couple of weeks. I'm coming up on the end of my 6 month probation period. I've been told I shoud get "a bump" in pay.

I've also been told I'm one of only a couple of people who got this far with no complaints from anyone(read, no f***ups). But, I made too many international phone calls while out of the country(got my a$$ chewing, said I'd made a mistake and did my 20 Rosarys).

Anyway, I'll let you know how this works out in a week or so.TC

P.S.--Thanks to all who have posted here--it really helps to have those with experience easing my transition.
