I have been told that entering the only correct pattern entry at a uncontrolled field is a 45 dergee entry to the downwind. Can anyone point out where this is written in the AIM or FAR's. I was unable to find it. Thanks Steve

Here is what I found

4-3-3

It doesn't specifically say you've got to come in a 45, but it recomends: "Enter pattern in level flight, abeam the midpoint of the runway, at pattern altitude".

The 45 degree entry is not the only correct entry. The other one that is widely accepted is the midfield crosswind entry.

Depending on how you are approaching the airport, one of these two can be used without going too far out of your way. Unless of course you are lined up for a straight in and you figure there is no one around to conflict with...

I think the point to make is the only one ever mentioned in any manual, is the 45 to the downwind. That is in the aim, can't remember the exact page, but its also got the traffic patterns drawn out.
