Anyone have any info on what the process is to get into Regan Part 91?

I couldn't recite specifics but from what I remember reading through the requirements I can't think of why it would be worth it. Just fly in to BWI or IAD and be done with it. By the time your pax get to their destination you'll still be hours ahead of all the security procedures and having to stop at a gateway airport...

I would use IAD so I never even bothered getting all the details. NO way I'm putting a FAM back with my pax.

I believe all the details would be on the NBAA website.

NBAA does have a page dedicated, sorry I dont have the link handy. By the time you incur the cost of the stop, loss of time, the associated charge of the FAM, you are HOURS behind going to IAD. I think the HOURS is a conservative number, throw in winter ops and opportunity to enjoy a ground delay and there is no time where this seems to make sense. IMHO.

Goin to DCA

It is a long drawn out process, there must be a Sky Marshall on the aircraft, the pax and crew have to screened at a so-called gateway airport or the flight does not go.
This is a can of Worms,I would not fool with it.
Your local FSDO can give you the complete info if you still want to try it.
Good Luck!!!!

tell them to take the subway to DCA! place is nuts, had a few close call their and not eaven realeted to security its just so small, to put so many airplanes on.

I use to fly for a congressman and he said he could get a waiver, I said IAD is just fine. He then told me it wasn't that bad of a drive, after a few trips.

"NO way I'm putting a FAM back with my pax"

You can send your own corporate security peronnel through the training and use them if they are former Federal Agents.

Over time they a gradually relaxing these types of restrictions. At some point approved operators may be allowed to operated into DCA without the current restrictions. When that happens, you will want to have the approval process completed, even if you don't use it now. That way you won't have to explain to your CEO why his buddy's can get into DCA and he can't.

Not to pick a nit....well, actually, yes I will. It is Ronald REAGAN National Airport. Not Regan. Donald Regan was Ronnie's Chief of Staff at one time. Public school education strikes again.

And if your company actually wants to jump through all the ridiculous, idiotic, counter-productive, expensive, and ineffective hoops required to go to DCA, more power to you.

Add'l Info

As I understand the flight crew also has to have a completed background check by TSA/DOT and FEE's are also due for the pax screening and Sky Marshall. It could amount to several hundred dollars,I am told.

Best go to IAD,HEF,or BWI.

Good Luck!!!

I just attended a meeting regarding the use of the ASO's and such for operations into DCA. As I understand it and as it was explained to us, the aircraft crew and passenger are unloaded and must walk through a metal detector at the gateway airport. The aircraft is searched by the local TSA and then may depart. If there are any changes to the passenger manifest the trip is canceled via the TSA. Aside from the $300 for screening at DCA and what ever associated charges are required at the gateway airport, the ASO will also be charging a fee as well. It seems that with the added time and expense, an out lying airport such as BWI or IAD makes much more economic sense.

Here are a couple of websites that we where given as well.

First you have to apply with the TSA. That can be done online at
www.fly.faa.gov/ecvrs.index.html

The TSA has a website that has a bunch of info as well.

www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/editorial/editorial_2079.xml

Hope this helps answer some questions

Does anyone know of an operator who has actually done this successfully? I don't mean someone operating with a waiver, I mean actually stopped at the gateway, hired a police officer, etc....

or go to Manassas, very easy, don't even think you deal with any restricted airspace/etc issues

I saw a Jetstream in DCA two days ago. That's the first time I've seen a GA airplane there in a very long time. I'm assuming it was a politician arriving for the Alito confirmation hearings, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure who the operator was.
