Does anyone know any good websites or resources for explaining Part 61 vs Part 141 for Private through Commercial training?

eh...it works here...

try here:
http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?&c=ecfr&tpl=/ecfrbrowse/Title14/14tab_02.tpl

It tells you all the FARs...

Not sure if that's what you're looking for or not.

If you mean what are the differences in time requirements, just check out Pt 61 and then call the 141 school in question and find out. Depending on their syllabus, it could be a LOT less. I think the general 141 requirement for Commercial Pilot Certification is 190 TT (i might be wrong). Well, here (141) the Commercial Syllabus is like 50 hours of training or something along those lines...it just depends on what the feds approve.

Hope it helped

Awesome, thanks for the link. I can't remember what happens if a student fails the Knowledge test at a Part 141 school. I think the student gets to take it one more time then if the student fails he/she goes Part 61. Is this right?

Not here. We get two cracks at the knowledge test (lasergrade) under the "training contract". After that (or for additional tests like IGI, AGI, etc.) we pay the $70.

Knowledge tests are the same part 61 and 141. For that matter, so are the practical tests. All airman certification is done under part 61, the 141 is just a way to train.

Hope it helps.

If someone fails the knowledge test, IMO, they shouldn't be flying ... The test is too easy .. all of them are.

You can study for them in 1-2 days and get 90%+.

I agree. Especially with all the test prep software out there. Prepped for my FIA and FOI over about a weeks time and scored high 90s on FIA and aparently went brain-dead on the FOI and missed one ....must have been the one I fell asleep for.

Im going to take my com written in the next few days. Hope I dont fail it

Obviously you've passed your private written, you should do fine.

Just hit the regs up a little more than you did for the PPL written and that should cover it.

Or check out www.sportys.com for the practice commercial test. That's all I used and it worked out wonderful for me...

Good Luck!

A student at my school failed his written. It counted as the final in ground school. I overheard an instructor saying if he didn't pass his ground school final on the second try, he would have to go Part 61.
