Just saw this on http://www.skyjobs.net

We are looking for 6 Demo/Sales pilots for a new Fractional Company to launch service in the United States during March of 05. The Demo/Sales Pilot will be responsible for the sale of Fractional Ownerships in one of the 6 Geographical area of the country. This will include attending aviation airshow events, providing PR flight to the local media, providing demo flights and selling ownerships in L-39 aircraft based in one of the several focus cities in your geographical area. Our current web page is under development but some of our company information is listed. Please feel free to visit and comment.

Several L-39 owners have tried to come up with ways to use the airplane in some sort of a commerically viable operation. The problem has always been the lack of available insurance.

The idea of a fully funded fractional self insuring ( meaning they don't have any insurance ) is interesting. If the airplane crashes all of the fractional partners are out their money. The web site suggests that the fractional participants could insure their share, but I've never seen an insurer agree to such an arrangement, particularly with a high performance experimental aircraft ( and my former employer even insured F104's )

Own an underpowered slug!

I just finished upset training in Santa Fe and I have to say that the L-39 was an extreme dissapointment! It looks really cool but it feels about as powerful as a light piston twin, seriously!

It's a trainer, not a jet fighter...

It is designed to handle as well as a light piston single, and in truth it really does.

The reality is that if you want jet fighter performance, you've got to pay for it.

UUuuuhhhhh.........the thread is titled "own a Jet Fighter". I can buy an old 20-series Lear for about the same price and go twice as fast and take a bunch of my friends along for the ride ta' boot!

Exactly, and the L-39 is not a jet fighter... A Mig-21 is however... :)

You can buy a very nice L-39 for $200,000, and fly it for about $500/hr, depending on who you know to get the mx done.

You can buy a decent Mig-21 for $100,000, but you'll pay four times as much per hour to fly it, and for sure a good bit more to get properly trained in it.

I'm not trying to argue apples and oranges(I'm not trying to argue period  ) . The only information that I was trying to relay is that the L-39 is a real dissapointment for most people who think that it would be "cool" to fly or that it goes as fast as it looks. By comparison, the T-34 that JWBTC in Santa Fe has, is much more fun to fly and doesn't feel a whole lot slower.

I'm not trying to argue either, and if that is how it was taken, then I apologize.

The L-39 is indeed fun to fly, you just have to take it for what it is.

For someone who hasn't flown anything with more performance, it will be a kick indeed.

Of course you'd also need a ground crew to run the huffer and pack the drogue. "Someone in the know," told me there are three now in civilian hands, all in Cali.
I ran across one at Whiteside County Airport in Illinois about a year ago. Actually, he ripped right by me, having some fun, then a few T&G's

There is another webiste out there selling F-8's, A-4's and a few other Vietnam era jets.

No problem......I have a pregnant, hormonal wife at home and let's just say that the nerves are a little tweek'd right now. Maybe I'm just experiencing "sympathy" sensitivity?!. :D

That's a good point. I suppose your experience will be relative to your background. If I were to buy one, I would still choose the Mentor. I'm a real cheapa$$ though!
