One way to find out about the airports is to use just about any of the on-line air ticket reservation systems- orbitz, travelocity, or even the airlines' own sites. Just put in the name of the city you want and they will usually spit out the closest airport or even a list of airports in the area to choose from. This might not work so well with smaller towns/ cities that don't have air carrier service, but it's a place to start. I prefer aa.com under flight schedules so that I can check individual seats on line (only on AA, but I live in STL and jump them all the time- I just wish I could jump them international).
