What not to tell the examiner on your checkride...

"Well, I really don't want to be a flight instructor, but I guess it's the only way to build time."
(During a CFI-Initial ride)

(After a fail on a Friday and the examiner's going on vacation next week):
(Same guy as above)
"Can we fly this weekend?"

"You sure charge a lot"

It's so funny you bring this up...I just sent a student in to an oral 15 minutes ago with a DPE...they're already in the plane.

...is that a good sign or a bad one?

Yet another:

(Same CFI-Initial as above...)
(On the phone to schedule a retest with the examiner):
"I'm gonna take some time off from studying for a few days - I'm getting burnt out. I'm starting to hate aviation and we both know that's not good."

I think that's a good thing....

*edit*
seriously though, I don't wish a bust on anyone...just that examiners (FSDO and DPE) be fair...if I diserve my ticket, then I diserve it. If I doinked something, I need to learn how to do it right and I'll move on.

With the CFI checkrides though, the students diserve more than a time builder. That burns my butt-hairs more than anything is a CFI applicant that openly says something like "yep...I'm a time builder".

I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about CFI'n, but since I earned my ticket, decided that's a career I want. I think if you go into it with an open mind, not only is it "not bad", but it's actually really cool!

How good does it feel when a student comes in after first solo? Passing a PPL? I can't wait til this kid gets done...I'm very confident in his ability, so I'm looking forward to another picture on the wall. I'd never get that "giddy feeling" if I wasn't a CFI.

*sigh*
oh well...
