A plane filled with returning British holidaymakers was forced to land in Italy after smoke began pouring from an on-board oven.

Britannia flight BY278B from Rhodes was due to land at Stansted on Friday, but touched down in Brindisi after smoke started billowing from the galley.

The 232 holidaymakers are due back early on Sunday on a different plane.
